Why would Disney even reference the Nostalgia Critic or Thomas and the Magic Railroad in a movie about Polynesian folklore? Granted I've never seen the movie, but if they were going to do anachronistic references surly they would pick decent stuff instead of a screechy internet critic and an infamous box office bomb.

The tags of this thread summarize TVTropes pretty well.

https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/geniusbonus is probably the most autistic thing I've ever read

In Shadowrun, the Puyallup Barrens in the Seattle metropolitan area has an abandoned shopping mall called the Crime Mall, which is currently used as a front for many black market dealers. Now consider that the real life town that the Barrens is based on is named after a Native American tribe whose term literally means "the generous people" in their dialect. Given the location of the Crime Mall in that particular town, the name couldn't be any more coincidentally accurate.

When listening to The Scathing Atheist it helps to be knowledgeable in world politics, science, literature, the English language, films, and pop culture to get all the jokes. Keep this in mind when Noah compliments a patron's penis by stating that it has Lagrange Points.

The English translator for Pokémon Diamond and Pearl is also a writer for Something Awful. So for fun, he subtly slipped in a few references that a meme-savvy gamer might catch, such as the line "My Pokemon is fight!".

In The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the Sabre Cats have bodies more similar to bears than cats, with many a player probably thinking this was some fantasy take on saber-toothed cats. Well, the genus Smilodon had bear-like bodies stockier than modern day cats, with the most accepted theory being that it was an adaptation to take down large prey such as mammoths. Mammoths also live in Skyrim. For the literary player, finding a copy of the book Palla will induce either grimaces of shock or squeals of delight when they recognize it as a corruption of Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita

Seeing the Hilarious in Hindsight tropes made me remember how fucking stupid it is, so on a whim I decided to look at Monty Python and the Holy Grail to see what kinds of stupid shit I could find.

I don't get what's funny about looking at things that are vaguely similar. Monty Python and the Holy Grail is an old movie, but just because another movie somewhat resembled it in some superficial way doesn't make it "hilarious." It's fucking autistic.

Y'know, the other reason I looked at the Monty Python page was because this made me curious if they would connect that peasant with modern day political strife. What the fuck do Egypt and Tunisia have to do with a 23 year old kids movie?

So I decided to rewatch Silence of the Lambs (still holds up pretty well), and I thought to go to the YMMV page for the work, because I had a feeling they'd have a problem with it.

Guess what? I'm right.

Also, on the Turok page:

what the fuck is this person even talking about, the ICE Shit?

Ah, the good ole "My favorite character is autistic!" cliche. You know what? I think someone should make a TVTropes bingo with all the common trends we see on this thread...
Just give me some time once I get back to my computer.

EDIT: Here you go!

Regarding Silence of the Lambs i guess tropers don't care that Buffalo Bill was based on real life serial killers like Ed Gein or Jerry Brudos. The producers didn't come up with the 'character' based on what they assumed a serial killer would be like because of some transphobic ideas they had they looked into the practices of famous killers and came up with the killer. They did that for authenticity so experts would not trash the movie for introducing elements that were not usually seen in such characters.Weirder still tropers admit the real life inspiration but reality doesn't matter.Apparently the only kind of serial killer that 'works' for them is a 100% straight white guy who probably wears a MAGA hat.
