I've never seen any of these opinions surface when talking about Smash myself. Some general grumpiness about inaccurate portrayals like Wario or whatever, yeah, but nothing about the portrayals of DK, Bowser or Mario. Who even fucking cares? I don't and I'm a pretty big Mario/DK sperg.

What's kinda funny to me is that at this point it's pretty much canon Mario is a huge dick when competing at sports and such anyway which actually helps give him some character. Leave it to TVTropes to complain about character depth.

If only TVTropes actually wasn't that censor-happy when it comes to subjective reviews, then YMMV pages wouldn't be so filled with fan-tardism and toxicity.

I've already mention this page in the past, but I feel like I should also go over some examples, because dear god, this comes close to being Dethroning Moment tier garbage
  • Lucina, a popular heroine from Awakening, is utterly despised by the He-Man Woman Hater demographic. While there are indeed contentious aspects to her such as her Wolverine Publicity and being frequently depicted as a Moveset Clone, many of these haters arbitrarily treat such elements as if they make her into the worst character ever, and bemoan how her popularity allegedly made Fire Emblem (and to a lesser extent Super Smash Bros.) all about "waifus".

Remember, if you hate a female character for being pointless fanservice to pander to perverts, that automatically makes you MISOGYNIST!! Same thing goes for disliking waifu culture. TV Tropes is so stupid, that they manage to invoke a different, yet somehow equally-re.tarded, type of bigotry towards men than other SJWs.
  • The Mario franchise, normally one of Nintendo's biggest Sacred Cows for being its "mascot" franchise, can experience some hatred from older fans when it goes through a Dork Age. A strong example was the Nintendo 3DS/ Wii U era from 2012 to 2016, where the games showed stereotypical signs of pandering to children and casual players; some games, such as Paper Mario: Sticker Star, have a very pronounced hatebase of older gamers. Such Dork Ages can also make Mario's typical Wolverine Publicity more embarrassing for Nintendo fans, especially fans of other franchises. However, this is technically a subversion; the Mario games are targeted towards all ages (moreso than Pokémon), placing the hatedom in the Mario's intended demographic of "everyone".

Notice how they only bring up Sticker Star? That's because some autistic fanboys got butthurt over Color Splash, and decided to put the entire Mario series in "negative" "tropes" as a form of autistic, self-righteous revenge. I shit you not, it got so bad that they actually deleted CS's YMMV page within MINUTES.
In truth, nobody really despises Mario (except for Moviebob a-logs), and at worst, just consider it another game series. As much these spergs hate this, Mario's success comes from his main platforming games, not from the "deep" lore and RPGs they jizz over.
PS; The real reason people disliked Ultra Smash was because it's the most barebones tennis game with a full retail price tag. If it just had courts based on generic NSMB locations, that would actually be an improvement, because then there would be more than ONE court.
  • Many YouTube channels aimed at children suffer from this trope. These videos include toy review channels, bootleg nursery rhyme videos that use popular characters, and animated and/or live-action skit videos that insert those same characters (usually Spider-Man and Queen Elsa) in juvenile and poorly-written situations. Quite a few YouTubers and news outlets have harshly criticized such channels for bastardizing beloved characters, for generating millions of views with very little effort, and for providing content that can potentially harm children's development. It's so hated that it became a police investigation after most of them showed child abuse.

This is not a periphery hatedom, this is actual concerns over what kids are seeing online, and this time it's actually justified. FFS, TV Tropes, at least be consistent with your autistic "tropes".

This is somewhat tame compared to other examples I've given, but I'm still bringing this up to highlight a major problem with TV Tropes; it's over-generalization of the entire population of earth.
I say this because I know plenty of people that like The Looney Tunes Show, myself included (if you don't compare it to the classic Looney Tunes shorts, it's actually quite an entertaining and funny show, certainly better than tripe like MLP and Steven Universe (AKA the shit that tropers cream themselves over).
I could post more of these braindead examples, but if I do, I'm afraid I'll most certainly going to get an aneurysm from all the stupid. Besides, I'm sure some of you would like to mention all the stupid shit on this page as well.
EDIT: Also, congratulations on getting 200 pages of people mocking you, TV Tropes!

But you have to remember, that you have the ability to comprehend feelings beyond love and hate, as oppose to TV Tropes only dealing in absolutes like a sith. Also, unlike that troper, you didn't fly into a gigantic tard rage over Nintendo making a rehash of Sticker Star, instead of a rehash of The Thousand-Year Door.
Actually, now that I said that, it appears TV Tropes only makes a big deal over these things if it's something they hate. Only bad targets indeed

Here's to more pages of us criticizing them for all the right reasons. Ranging from exceptional tropers, shitty tropes, shitty examples, massive dicksucking of Z-list e-celebs, dicksucking of terrible media, power abuse, censorship, exceptional views, shitty security (it stores usernames and passwords in plaintext, which is a bad idea), a shitty website that uses PmWiki, which @GethN7 managed to surpass with MediaWiki. Also, the website throws a shit fit if you use an ad blocker. All in all, here's to more exceptionalism from this fucking awful site.

Has “Complete Monster” meant anything else than “VILLAIN THAT *I* DON’T LIKE AND I DON’T WANT *ANYONE* TO LIKE, BAWWWW!!!!!1111”, though? Because there have been problems with that page ever since both it and the Moral Event Horizon ones were created, since tropers tend to use them to pitch tantrums over all kinds of antagonists.

And here is when I realize someone is really, really wrong. People of both genders fucking A.D.O.R.E Lucina everywhere and anyone who even dares try bashing her is quickly and swiftly told to go fuck themself. I remember there was a huge uproar when the Robins were added to the Smash roster alongside other Emblems (Ike, Marth, Roy, etc.) and Lucina wasn't, and when she finally joined in everyone was screaming FUCK YEAH YEAH YEAH MY WAIFU/DAUGHTER IS THERE.

Fanboys generally want to waifu the Hell out of Lucina, not whine and cry that she should go. This person is probably pulling shit outta their own ass.

To their credit, some of the 'Complete Monster' entries are justified, particularly the ones that are abstract personifications of evil (see force of nature type villains) and utter scumbags with no redeeming qualities whatsover (Berserk's Griffith, Jessica Jones' Purple Man/Kilgrave, Dragon Ball's Zamasu) etc.

And it's okay, I do think the trope's existence in itself isn't that silly (and it looks like I wasn't clear enough abou it, oops). The problem is how the tropers use it, often adding villains less for their actual evil actions and more because they don't like these villains and don't want anyone to like them.

i.e., I remember a certain animanga antagonist being added repeteadly to the CM page despite him not reaching THAT unredeemable level of villainy in-story, and it turned out the troper who kept adding him was just someone who rabidly hated the guy. The mods had to tell the anti-fanboy to cut his shit or they'd ban him. :story:

Sweet mother, I have my own hassles with this trope, because while it started on TV Tropes, it's one problem ALL trope wikis have to deal with.

The main problem with it is not setting guidelines with who fits, it's that so many assholes don't give a shit and want their opinion to stand despite the guidelines.

It's so bad I have one mod who is my dedicated CM tard wrangler because damn, it's an even bigger shitshow otherwise.
