I never got why Tvtropes seems to have such affection for Doug and his ilk.
Because they want to be Doug Walker. They want to sperg in front of a camera and go to conventions where people will throw themselves at them for sperging in front of a camera.

When you think about it Doug’s entire schtick is to nitpick and overreact, which is exactly what tropers do. They probably see him as a god-like figure.

take note of the last post on there implying that tvtropers are smarter than critics.

Holy shit, just the sheer unwarranted smugness about it makes me laugh.

I mean, yeah, a lot of mainstream critics are dumb, but TV Tropes is just as, if not more dumb.
Case in point, just look at the YMMV and WMG pages of anything you come across by.

Which mainstream critics are they talking about? From what i know critics even the long established ones have never actually dismissed animation.Ebert frequently lauded good animated movies. So who are they talking about exactly?

Well to most tropers animation actually means shitty magical girl anime. They’re just pissed that Magical Loli High School Extreme or whatever shit they happen to be fapping to at the moment hasn’t been « acknowledged as art » by those accursed ignorant critics.

  • Anthony "A-Log" LoGatto is less known for his videos, and more known for his overblown hatred of Chris-Chan, to the point that "A-Logs" became a catch all term for members of Chris's Hate Dumb.
I have a good feeling that tropers have no idea what "controversy" even means.

There's also this
Duke Nukem Forever is known primarily for two things: being delayed for over a decade, and the fact that when it did finally come out it was found to contain extremely outdated attitudes toward race and gender, most infamously a "capture the flag"-style minigame based around abducting women.
Yes, that last thing was totally why everyone hated the DNF we got.
