and then while the geriatric rebels are all distracted by the evil dictator from generations ago, the First Order seizes power and now remain the only major player left in the galaxy.

I'm not kidding. The First Order just straight up won by the end of the sequels. They never address them again after Palpatine shows up.

Didn’t the FO get absorbed into the Sith Eternal, which got their shit shoved in by a bunch of people riding horses? The sequels sucked, and Palpatine still won since the Skywalker bloodline was rendered extinct while his descendent stole their name, but I do believe the Galactic Empire 2.0 was stopped.

No, funnily enough.

The Sith Eternal did indeed get their shit rocked by a cavalry charge, but the only First Order forces we see get sucked into the Final Order was General Pryde's ship, General Hux and Kylo Ren. The rest of the First Order forces are still out keeping the peace in the rest of the galaxy.

Palpatine already had more than enough of his own forces and didn't need the rest to come to his lightning planet through the deadly space cloud. That whole council that we see Kylo Ren talking to are still out there and the FO are still occupying most of the galaxy. The only ones who died were Pryde, Hux and Kylo, the rest were just Sith Troopers working for Sheev.
