What I mean is that if the website is really going to stand as some sort of pinnacle of archiving tropes, they should in some cases also be archiving real life events.

And I don't mean "memeing and acting like real life is a show and talking about how WWII suffered from arc fatigue," but actually explaining certain incidents that happened in Hollywood history recently and representing many sides of the argument.

Of course they do this with stuff from before the 60s, but I can understand why they wouldn't want even more controversy/autism.

If the website is really going to stand as some sort of pinnacle of archiving tropes, they need to actually learn what a trope is.

Most of the things on their website aren't tropes.

No. Just no.
Real life is not something consciously planned out beforehand by a creator. No one ever planted a motif or a metaphor in real life. The concept of "trope" simply shouldn't be applied to life events at all.

Doctor Sleep: Ash vs Red Pokémon Battle by Gumbino. A concept that had plenty of potential to be both funny and faithful squandered in favour of making Ash look like the sorest loser on the planet. By far the lowest point had to be when Ash started stomping his feet and demanding that he be allowed to murder one of Red's Pokemon out of some inane sense of fairness.

More DMoS cancer.

I think they have an entry on nearly every episode.

I honestly think comedy is a foreign concept to the people on these DMoS pages. It's like they don't understand the idea of laughing at exaggerations, though of course one of the symptoms of autism is the inability to recognize exaggeration. I haven't seen the episode but judging from the way this troper complains I think it's more poking fun at the legions of whiners who bitch incessantly about the show, and you know what, good on them if that's the case.

Also, fuck off with the ponies. If joking about that show is gonna elicit responses like this, then I say keep doing it Teen Titans Go, you're doing God's work.

Everyone, especially @Pointless Pedant, I thought I should let you all know I brought up your quite valid concerns about how way too many tropers bastardize the arts of writing and story analysis by treating tropes like legos and not merely aspects of the larger whole of a story structure that have to be fleshed out in a creative fashion, and so we have written this page on All The Tropes:

https://allthetropes.org/wiki/Tropes_Are_Not_Legos

We have even stuck it in our "Mechanics of Writing" section, or what is basically our category of articles we consider required reading for aspiring authors and story analysts.

How long is it going to be before you get an angry response?

Considering how much of the tv tropes community autistically screeches while fapping to the forum circlejerks where they complain about All of the Tropes, not very long.

Why would they? All The Tropes seems to have some of the same kinds of cartoon spergs and sexual creeps as TV Tropes. A few pages ago I found some paedophilic gushing in an ATT page on a creepy cartoon, which @GethN7 went and removed. They should get along well.

Keep in mind one thing: We can't stop everyone who is a sick bastard from being one, and we still have to clean up a lot of TV Tropes' leftovers from what we imported, which is still ongoing.

Regardless, with that said, we also don't tolerate people being creepy assholes and will clean it up and put a stop to it when it's brought to our attention, and we will throw out people who don't stop because we do enforce our own rules a lot better on that sort of thing.

I'd also like to add yes, I run a painfully autistic type of website with an equally autistic culture, even I won't deny it, but I and my fellow colleagues in running the project are doing our best to keep it from going into the gutter and are willing to give our critics the time of day instead of trying to pretend they don't exist, and while I don't apologize for being a troper site founder, I do hope to avoid most of TV Tropes worst mistakes at the very least, which is why I'm here in this thread to begin with.

I was just wondering why TV Tropes would hate All The Tropes when they're fairly similar websites. Do they consider them traitors to the cause?

There is nothing wrong with having a hobby/occupation people might call autistic. What is wrong is acting exceptional about it and cramming fetishes in it. You have no reason to justify yourself when doing things right.

And you do things right, Geth.

Actually, we get along fairly well these days, but while Fast Eddie was running things, not so much for reasons I think should be obvious.

With Drew Schoentrup now running things, we've reached a happy balance. Outwardly, we're cordial about each other, and my willingness to intervene in the Nate Spidgewood situation did a LOT to help make sure of that, but we have several rules we both understand and enforce.

1. They cannot copy from us or we them, unless it's the same person re-submitting their work under a different license for each site, which is permissible under Creative Commons. Technically, we could just slap a "this page is under X copyright with content from Y" to get around this, but it's not something we do in practice.

2. We don't work to actively "poach" users from one another. We may contact them to verify they are copying their own work on if they resubmit it on ATT when it was on TVT and they used a different name, but that's all.

3. Neither site tolerates anyone giving the other a hard time. We both cooperated to get Nate Spidgewood to quit harassing us, with them providing me the information to get in touch with Nate's parents, and I was the one to express the need to get their son under control because his repeated harassment and abuse of their users was getting them to the point of calling the FBI, and I too was almost at that point.

4. Publicly, any resentment towards anyone is over. I even published a few blog articles saying as much, and it's ATT policy to discourage spewing active bile, and TV Tropes' staff has been nice enough to reciprocate. Privately, I've even expressed things like wishing the staff of TV Tropes a Merry Christmas, and they have returned the goodwill, for which I could not be happier.

Yeah, they've done a few episodes mocking these autists, and I applaud them for it.

Acting exceptional about something and cramming fetishes into it is what makes it autistic.

Someone noticed I'm here in this thread and thinks if I stick around long enough I'll become Fast Eddie 2.0, and for that I cannot facepalm hard enough.

As I replied, NO, I will not take down a single damn thing that can be tropable media so long as it sticks to the facts and keeps itself out of the gutter, as in, someone clearly was getting off as they wrote stuff down. Otherwise, and I want this on the record here as well as there, I don't give a single flying fuck who whines and bitches about anything, be it a trashy fanservice anime, porn parody, the works of Marquis De Sade, or any other adult media (which is still legal to view and discuss), they will NOT come down unless someone can give me a good legal reason for it.

Simply whining and moaning about how it's icky and you think it's gross is not good enough for me, and so far, Wikia's advertisers haven't compromised any of our content, and the second they did, I would ask they close our wiki as opposed to the crippling our site mission.

To date, the only things they've ever asked me to do was to make sure people didn't post any pornographic images, which I'm fine with, and even without that I would have insisted on the same since it's not necessary to begin with.

Otherwise, the only things I've removed would be things that were just asking for trouble like Tropers Tales and Fetish Fuel, as well as paring down any perverse edits to pages where people could just state the facts without making it obvious they jerk off to the page subject.

Compared to Fast Eddie, who even removed most of the above anyway save the adult work pages (which I will defend so long as they stay out of the gutter) and it was a good decision I can't disagree with, I have no intention of going any further unless compelled to do so by law or by general consent of the community of the sites I administrate.

I understand that position, but you're going to be fighting off an endless horde of gross creeps.
