Again, I really wonder why they even bother with the spoiler tag when sometimes pages got stuff with the tag, only for the entry right after having it without spoilers.

For example, on the The Witcher 3 page, they put the part where x betrays the y with and without spoilers multiple times.

Simple answer: autism

Anyone remember Troper Tales? They were a section of the sit where people would write examples tropes they personally in experienced in real life. They were a real riot and got removed by the mods a long time ago because they were too cringe even for the site (Lots of bragging, creepy stuff)

"Aspies have it just as tough as people with Down's"

Downies are retarded because that's the way God made them. You, on the other hand, willingly chose to be an early-10s internet tough guy posting on TVT.

What are the chances this guy has trooned out and/or 41%'d? Four nines?

However, there's an category of autists that are even worse off than Chris. Of course, you don't see them on the web that often.

In a followup to my Trumplica post, it went about as well as you'd expect. Most of the examples do fit, but there are a few that are just "Mean man in suit = Trump"

One thing of particular note is how the page refuses to mention that he won a second time in 2024.

History stops at 2018 it seems.

Well, to be fair, would you rather constantly read about how a minor gets raped in this incredibly obscure comic that the Japanese made?
The anime pedos tend to not fill up the main pages with their sperging. The fanfic pedos are much, much more obnoxious there.

*Insert that "black girls with racebent characters from Current Year™ remakes vs black boys with Dragon Ball" meme here*

From Grok
TV Tropes is often criticized for its unreliability and messy structure due to several factors, based on available discussions and critiques:

1. **Lack of Sourcing and Verification**: As a wiki, TV Tropes allows anyone to edit, leading to unsourced claims and subjective interpretations. Unlike Wikipedia, which strives for citations, TV Tropes prides itself on being unsourced, relying on the opinions of its community, known as "Tropers." This can result in misinformation or exaggerated trope applications that lack rigor or factual backing.[](https://www.reddit.com/r/AllTheTropes/comments/c81bko/cons_of_tv_tropes/)

2. **Inconsistent Writing Quality**: The site suffers from inconsistent formatting and poor writing quality, including grammatical errors and excessive use of bold or italicized text for emphasis, which can make pages feel amateurish or overly sensational. This contributes to a perception of low editorial standards.[](https://www.reddit.com/r/AllTheTropes/comments/c81bko/cons_of_tv_tropes/)

3. **Subjective and Overly Broad Trope Definitions**: Tropes are often loosely defined, leading to overgeneralizations or misapplications. Users may stretch trope definitions to fit unrelated media, creating confusion or misleading analyses. Critics argue this reduces complex storytelling to simplistic "Lego brick" formulas, undermining nuanced media analysis.[](https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/TV_Tropes)[](https://www.reddit.com/r/The10thDentist/comments/p61l94/people_should_stop_using_the_word_tropes_or_any/)

4. **Moderation and Management Issues**: The site has faced criticism for heavy-handed moderation. Some users report arbitrary bans or suspensions by moderators, particularly under past administrators like "Fast Eddie" or "Fighteer," for minor infractions or disagreements. This has fostered a reputation for unfair governance and stifled open editing, contributing to a decline in user trust and engagement.[](https://www.reddit.com/r/tvtropes/comments/dla3hc/i_finally_found_the_root_of_all_of_tv_tropes/)[](https://sarahlicity.co.uk/2011/04/16/the-failure-and-ridicule-of-tv-tropes/)[](https://www.reddit.com/r/tvtropes/comments/1c04255/tvtropes_is_now_an_example_of_if_it_aint_broke/)

5. **Structural and Usability Problems**: The website's navigation is often described as a "time sink" due to its dense web of hyperlinks, leading users on endless "Wiki Walks." This, combined with inconsistent page formatting and a clunky search function, makes it hard to find reliable information efficiently. Mobile browsing is further hampered by intrusive ads that disrupt the user experience.[](https://scifi.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/6396/what-is-so-wrong-about-tvtropes)[](https://www.reddit.com/r/tvtropes/comments/1djjdqf/browsing_on_mobile_is_infuriating/)[](https://www.reddit.com/r/tvtropes/comments/1c04255/tvtropes_is_now_an_example_of_if_it_aint_broke/)

6. **Cultural and Content Issues**: Past controversies, like the "Google Incidents" in 2010 and 2012, forced the site to remove or restrict content deemed inappropriate (e.g., explicit or controversial tropes), which alienated some users and led to accusations of censorship. Additionally, sections like "Troper Tales" and "Fetish Fuel" gained notoriety for inappropriate or poorly moderated content, further damaging the site’s credibility.[](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TV_Tropes)[](https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/TV_Tropes)

7. **Perceived Decline in Quality**: Some users argue the site has lost its original charm, becoming overly serious or "clinical" by renaming playful tropes to sound more academic, alienating its casual fanbase. Traffic reportedly dropped after stricter account creation policies and moderation practices, reducing community contributions and vitality.[](https://www.reddit.com/r/tvtropes/comments/18i243o/is_tv_tropes_not_as_popular_as_it_used_to_be/)[](https://www.reddit.com/r/tvtropes/comments/1c04255/tvtropes_is_now_an_example_of_if_it_aint_broke/)

These issues—unsourced content, poor writing, subjective tropes, strict moderation, and usability problems—create a perception of TV Tropes as unreliable and disorganized, despite its value as a fun, informal resource for spotting media patterns. If you’d like, I can dig deeper into a specific aspect, like moderation controversies or trope accuracy, or search for more recent critiques.
