Why haven't they implemented the quote function already?!
Laziness, by this point.

Incidentally, this is Fast Eddie's list of reasons why he wouldn't have a quote button. It's even more retarded than you'd think:
Fast Eddie said:
Why We Will Never Have a Quote Button

You guys will have to recall that I've given these reasons many, many times. Here they are again.

1) It's a crappy method of discourse because you can just address the person you are talking to and/or refer back to the post containing the material you are quoting.

How to do that? Here are some options:
  • Hover your mouse pointer over the dateline on this post. See? It's a link to the post.
  • Use the post number. "Re post #4123: While it may be true that ... " works well.
  • Just talk to that human being out there. "Unfortunately, Fast Eddie, we have no access here to whatever supercrack you are smoking ..."
2) If you make it easy, you will see people quoting the post directly above because they have developed a habit of always bashing the quote button when they want to reply. This adds visual clutter and is annoying.

3) A post containing a bunch of quotes each followed by a reply is like the International Symbol for "trolling in progress." Trolls deserve all the extra work we can make for them.

4) It very pointedly ignores all the posts between the quoted material and the reply. This jerks the flow of the conversation backwards and or fractures the conversation, causing there to be multiple 'threads' within the conversation. Confusing, and somebody is bound to be shorted.

5) Quote buttons suck, I don't like them, and since I'm the one who would have to build them for free, they're fucked.

I'm reading some of the YMMV posts, and is it just me, or do they have issues with media that ends on a sad note with a pessimistic message? Somehow messages like "you can achieve a soul" and "you can't change your place in society" sends them into a flying "REEE this is problematic" frenzy.

Tropers are notorious for their obsession with children's entertainment. As a rule, they dislike media where the ending isn't wrapped up in one neat and tidy silver-lined package. Actual bittersweet endings trigger feelings in them, which is something people who obsess over Spongebob don't like.

BTW, are Tropers mostly men or women?

I'd also like to know about the races, just to play the tumblr card (though i'm guessing the majority are white well-off kids).

Difficult to say.

My bet? Mostly college-aged men with some dangerhairs. The original community comprised mostly of the Buffy fandom, but they jumped ship a long time ago. The current Troper base is mostly millennials of the "Totally 90s Kid" bent, but the ones who never got laid.

Statistically, most of them are probably white. But that's just because most people in the English-speaking world are white.

I think there's really a sizable amount of women on that site - you just have to look in the right places.

TVT's userbase is composed of sheltered weirdos who turned to cartoons in their teenage years when they sacrificed any chance at a healthy social life by refusing to adapt and drop the cringy kid behavior.
So mostly male, mostly on the spectrum, mostly white and middle-class, with a bunch of cat ladies-in-training sprinkled here and there.

The majority cover the 'sheltered otaku motherfucker' demographic pretty well. Neckbeards, NEET, and autism oh my! The more shocking part is that 1% comprised of 65 and up. Really makes you wonder how senior homes look at residents learning about tropes.
The founder (yes, TV Tropes has only one founder) belongs to this demo.

In fairness some of the actual Wiki content is fairly well-written, albeit of course on the spergy, fancruft side. I've never paid attention to the forum, but I'm sure it's a shithole, just like 99% of forums centered on fandoms are.

The biggest problem the wiki content has is Tropers use tropes in describing other tropes. This makes the site pretty unfriendly to newbies because you have like fifteen years of jargon to master to actually understand what's the pages say.

Autism knows no gender. While I'm convinced most of the userbase is male, I wouldn't be surprised if there were a decent amount of females lurking around.

Many of the Tropers I know and have talked to are women, so in my experience there are MANY female Tropers and autism really knows no gender.

Jesus fucking CHRIST, it was just a "team competition" in a gatcha-type game. No need to take it THAT seriously.
