I like the link he gives to that Periodic Table of Tropes image, complete with actual "molecules" used to describe certain works. It just seems so weird, looking at fiction like this. I get common elements is a major part of fiction writing, but has any writer actually been successful by mapping out his story with a bunch of bullshit jargon set up in a list?

Not per se. Frederick Forysthe was well known for such such well detailed story outlines than all he had to do to write the actual story was to add some expository dialogue linking it all together, and wrote decades before TV Tropes was even a concept, but even that is nowhere near the concept of troping as most actual tropers use it.

Me, I don't think you can write a story like that at all, based of a jargon list, simply because as any writing class will teach you, you need to have some fleshed out ideas you can add to until you've got an actual story at the end.

A list of storywriting buzzwords is about as useful as a mad libs generator: It gives you a vague idea that might be a sensible starting place with a bit of development, but it's not really a great starting place for well developed thoughts.

Tropers don't seem to understand that, especially on TV Tropes. Yes, identifying the tropes is useful, but instead of actually learning anything from what they classify in order to re-apply it to their own work, they instead think that the classification process is the learning, when it's merely gathering the research materials together so you can then do the actual learning.

Hence all the idiots who unironically speak trope terms in real life and think all you need to do to make a story is do is the writer equivalent of a Nora Reed style spambot.

I had an art teacher that also taught cartooning, and we went through the monomyth (Hero with a Thousand Faces), and he said something about the monomyth idea that I'll always remember, and it applies very much to TvTropes: "It's a great tool for analyzing, but don't think you have to conform to it."

And therein lies the rub. There is nothing wrong with identifying the tropes of certain media and sharing that with the world. It's autistic, but harmless, and if you do so in order to more easily understand what you just classified from that work so as to understand how those writing devices were used and one of the many ways you could use them in your own writing, then you've taken that trope and actually gained some wisdom from the knowledge.

Unfortunately, most tropers think knowledge IS wisdom, which is like saying you know you should not stand in the rain is sufficient when you are too stupid to use that knowledge to keep yourself out of the rain.

How old is this pantheon? 'Cause I can't imagine this shit flying when Fast Eddie was in charge. Eddie was a stupid dick, but not all his purges were bad.

The pantheon is definitely at least 5 years old at this point, I remember seeing it then. Fast Eddie hardly bothered cleaning things up when they got overly spergy, just when they started to become PR liabilities.

It's an easy mistake to make since a lot of what he did clean up happened to be overly spergy. Admittedly though that's a big part of the site.

What is it with so many autists being fans of Thomas the Tank Engine??
Behold! This link shall explain why.
Here's more ridiculous garbage from TVTropes for you lovely folks!

Who cares about the way a voice sounds, or if it's annoying? If you hate the voice so much, DON'T PLAY THAT GAME!
On Anpanman's page, there was this:

Eeeh...I don't think that's what they were actually saying in Japanese...
This is from the Super Mario Brothers Super Show:

Isn't Super Mario the NAME of the franchise?
This was found on the page of another crappy preschool show, Teddy Ruxpin:

"OH NOEZ, SOMEONE MADE AN ADULT CARTOON AND IT'S SUCCESSFUL! ANIMATION IS GONNA DIE!!!!!!!"
What dumbasses.
If you thought The Ugly Barnacle having it's own page is stupid, people turned a joke in a Nostalgia Chick video into its' own page, even though it doesn't exist in real life.

The Pantheon was around for awhile, even back when Fast Eddie ran the site.

Back then, it had about 580% less autism and cringe, and aside from removing some really stupid shit (like Bill Cosby and CWC being fallen evil gods) on occasion, that autism has otherwise been allowed to fester since it started.

It even has it's own namespace and you can watch changes to it from their recent changes specifically.

Remember that time in Family Guy where that nerdy kid who crushed on Meg showed an episode of Star Trek in his class and pointed out which scenes had William Shatner and which one had his stunt double, and how no one actually gave a shit? This website makes me think of that.

"Now, that's Lubins, but if you freeze-frame here, you can clearly see Shatner's coffee cup sitting on that rock!"

The website also makes me think of this Animaniacs sketch:

wow

There's not enough :autism: ratings out there to fully express just how IQ-lowering this batch of screencaps truly are. As for that last one. I think Pixar's been doing a decent job without the help of Seth Rogan.
