What's autism without train sperging? From the page on the Polar Express movie:

I didn't include the YMMV that they mention because it's just more technical garbage about trains and I don't know a thing about trains so it's pretty much Japanese to me. And in case you're wondering, yes there's more.

There's also this:

Gee, it's almost as if they just needed a song lyric and it wasn't actually supposed to tie into anything!

The Polar Express is a fucking fairy tale.

I actually saw The Polar Express in theaters as a kid. One thing I can assure you I wasn't thinking about is the specifics of the train. Honestly, I don't even think Chris would be that autistic.

I just love how they think 'this train isn't one hundred percent on mark' is a trope.

Just train wrong. Because you see, getting things wrong about trains is so very different to getting things wrong about cars, or boats, or bikes, or planes. I'm glad to see there are people out there willing and able to point out that train cars don't bend around mountains. Did I say glad? I meant suicidally depressed.

On a different note, why exactly did all the tropes split from tvtropes?

This made me laugh harder than it should have.

TV Tropes purged rapey things due to Google's pressure and hecklers like Something Awful and the "This Troper" youtube series. Some retards believed that every single thing is worth "troping". Hence they split.

They explain themselves here:

https://allthetropes.org/wiki/All_The_Tropes:Why_Fork_TV_Tropes

A more indepth explanation goes as follows:

Resentment against Fast Eddie and how he had been doing things had been building for a LONG time, and it finally exploded around "The Second Google Incident", during which, after Google forced them to remove the "Naughty Tentacles" page due to reports (it apparently linked to content Google's advertisers found unsuitable, though the exact reason is still unknown).

The page in question was killed off, and Fast Eddie went on a rampage, axing shit like crazy, even deleting the page on the book "Lolita" at one point.

He took a bunch of shit for this, couldn't handle it, so he mostly removed himself from the process, installed a censorship panel to do the dirty work for him (with him having the final say on whatever he wanted), and they continued to piss people off.

Some Goons had infiltrated the ranks (two of the censorship committee members were confirmed goons) and were deliberately aiding the process to further piss off TV Tropes, which they long hated ever since Fast Eddie made clear he didn't like them, and by the time it became clear this shit was not going to stop, Brent Laabs, a longtime member, along with a few others, decided to copy all the content to that point and gather as much deleted content as possible from the Wayback Machine, intent on forking the site.

The Goons apparently leaked this to TV Tropes, Fast Eddie flipped his shit, and Brent and the others involved were banned for some bullshit about hacking TV Tropes when what they really did was essentially spider the site with a low intensity bot like Google uses to create search results.

Some time after, Geth appears on Wikia and takes control of a formerly stillborn fork created way back in the day by some ex-troper and Goon sympathizer named Jack Butler, and started using pages from Brent's page dump. He even showed up on TV Tropes to make nice and make clear they weren't going to do any harm.

Around this time, Fast Eddie was a massive asshole and accused Geth of theft, Geth pointed out the copyright license (CC BY SA) allowed such reuse, and Fast Eddie told Geth to fuck off and soon after changed the copyright license to CC BY NC SA to prevent further reuse anywhere.

Geth had approached Brent around this point about finding an alternate host than Wikia to host the content, and even though Brent initially wanted to use a semi-custom wiki engine, Geth persuaded him to settle on using MediaWiki, and All The Tropes was eventually born on Orain (later switched to Miraheze's service after Orain died).

Up until Fast Eddie left, it was considered HERESY to even mention All The Tropes on TV Tropes, and it wasn't until Drew Schoentrup bought TV Tropes that, while it was still discouraged, Drew wasn't as much of a cunt and they eventually worked out a "we won't give you shit if you do the same" agreement, and they even joined forces to deal with batshit lolcow Nate Spidgewood because Nate was just that fucking insane.

Some interesting trivia is that one of the founders of All The Tropes, Robert Schroeck, he wrote the original version of the 'Naughty Tentacles" page, which, before it got linked to nasty shit, was basically a page on the trope itself, and he was a bit annoyed Fast Eddie saw fit to burn it to ashes instead of just cutting out the gross links, leaving it a locked page with a basic definition (it is a legit trope), or something less extreme. He was further pissed when he took down a page on his own fanfiction series in protest, Fast Eddie redirected his IP to Google out of spite, and Bob had to hit Eddie with a DMCA to get some copyrighted images removed as well.

Needless to say, Bob lost all faith in TV Tropes ever since and now runs All The Tropes. According to his own biographical information, he's an intense hater of censorship and has even gone to court to fight against it more than once, hence ATT's strong resistance to censorship except when legally required.

Brent Laabs is a programmer from California who is, according to his public information, a bit of a maverick type who isn't afraid to buck authority a little, and he helped fork TV Tropes because he thought Fast Eddie was full of shit. He's the tech guy for All The Tropes.

GethN7 has deliberately kept his IRL identity secret (in light of Oliver D. Smith trying to dox him while threatening his life, it makes a lot of sense, before this Nate Spidgewood threatened his life as well and wanted Oliver to dox Geth), but has confirmed he's an old time member of TV Tropes, back when you could edit there with IPs. Used to be a bit of a loose cannon and had a bit of a hatred for TV Tropes when he first founded ATT on Wikia and later independent hosting, but has chilled out over the years, as can be seen on his blog (he still does not like Fast Eddie, but has otherwise forgiven everyone else there, even formally apologizing to Fighteer for any hate he once may have felt for the guy) , and as many know from the Brianna Wu thread, fucking hates scamming assholes like Wu.

P.S. - It is worth noting All The Tropes, while still crippled with autism, DOES pay much more attention to their critics, Geth himself outright admitting he WANTS people to muckrake any bullshit so it can be addressed, and as shown on his blog, he even personally thanked an anonymous member of Something Awful (a site he considers full of noxious hypocrites) for helping him sanitize some perversion from some pages they had imported.

Geth has also taken notes from other TV Tropes critics like the Fuck No TV Tropes Tumblr, Project AFTER, and of course, us. He doesn't chimp out over Encyclopedia Dramatica like Fast Eddie did either, even making clear he wanted to be known as the anti-Fast Eddie, and as @LulzKiller can attest, he's even on speaking terms with a few people at ED, whereas Fast Eddie banned a page on ED because he didn't like how they pointed out how fucked up TV Tropes was.

TV Tropes purged rapey things due to Google's pressure and hecklers like Something Awful and the "This Troper" youtube series. Some exceptional individuals believed that every single thing is worth "troping". Hence they split.

At first, this was true on All The Tropes, especially the Wikia fork, where it was originally run by some guy named Anime Addict, who didn't seem to care about good taste at all and let ANYTHING stay up, while Geth, once he took over, took an axe to a lot of the dumber and fucked up shit like the Troper Tales and Fetish Fuel garbage.

The Orain/Miraheze fork has had a similar pruning, and while they do let people make pages on hentai and other adult stuff, they have a pretty strict "don't use the page to jack off" rule, "just describe what happens without being a sick fuck and keep your dick in your pants" policy.

The more shocking statement is that they made an ED admin an admin there.

The guy who wrote the "Evil Overlord" list?

Yeah, he's a minor lolcow story in and of itself.

Jack was one of those types who thought, not entirely unreasonably, the anime weebs had shit up TV Tropes, and to be fair, at the time he was bitching about it, he was basically right.

ED has a decent breakdown of what happened, but breadbox version is: Jack wanted the Nakama trope named "Band of Brothers", the weebs hated it, Jack didn't give a shit, Fast Eddie gave a noncommittal response he took as a yes, so Jack started mass moving shit.

Fast Eddie flipped the fuck out, banned his ass, and the trope was later renamed the much less weebtastic and fairly sane 'True Companions".

Jack, on the other hand, went to Wikia and started the wiki Geth now runs, where he tried to do a poor man's TV Tropes, didn't get very far, and Fast Eddie didn't really see it as a threat at the time since the imported content was so low.

Jack had his own ideas. He merged the anime and cartoons together due to his belief they were the same thing, and tried to strip out any hint of weebification. He soon decided he'd be better off on independent hosting and tried to blank everything.

Wikia lost it's shit (this is GODDAMN HERESY to them) and permabanned him, and Anime Addict, who had been one of the editors (and apparently wanted to reverse the trend) took over.

Jack's story doesn't stop there. He hung out on a few "bitter ex-tropers" forums, eventually settling on "Beyond the Lampshade" (now defunct). While there, he tried to palm off this even shittier trope fork called the Trope Wiki onto some people, no one cared, domain eventually expired and it died.

As for Jack, he disappeared after apparently going off some some weird gender politics rant or something, no one liked it, so he took a hint and has not been seen since.

I watched that movie a week ago and wondered if that train was real...
The last entry was WTF, though. What does passing hot chocolate underneath a seat have to do with cooling it?

I think they're suggesting that she just leaves it there for a while and it cools. They seem to have misspelled "talk" as "take."

Got to love how that last one is just "It's Santa's train. Don't question it." when the fact that it was magic was kind of the point. To these guys, the fact there's a train that travels to the North Pole should have set their "traintism" meters off.

Jack's version of the story (which I think is likely) was that Eddie was essentially using him as the fall guy. Eddie wanted Nakama gone because this 'trope' name had engendered so much drama, but being a coward he was, he didn't want to incite the ire of the many very well-organized, loud mouthed and obstructionist weebs on TVT. Hence he basically gave Jack a go-ahead and washed his hands of the whole business.

Jack flounced from Beyond the Lampshade after arguing with feminists. I forgot exactly what was that about but at least I'll give him some respect for that.
