I liked the "Deader Than Disco" pages, making me go "Oh, so that's why I haven't heard of that thing anymore, now I get it"... but recently, they had a big purge and they barely contain a few entries each now... this is sad...

An awful lot of the entries were just "This has fallen out of popularity and you don't hear anyone talk about it anymore," not "This has fallen out of popularity and nobody looks back on it with any fondness," as the trope ought to be for.

No matter how you dice it, it is not a trope.

If they used it properly, they would have to put My Little Pony and The Nostalgia Critic on there, and we know they wouldn't like that.
TvTropes has mission creep. Originally, it was about tropes in television. Now, it encompasses everything, from any form of fiction to all sorts of fanspeak.
With this and the Brony circlejerking, it's become a lot like Know Your Meme.

It hit terminal autism when they decided it was okay for budding Chris-Chans to add their own fanfics to it.

"Growing The Beard" - between ourselves... How fucking stupid does this trope sound?

Is it really so hard to say that something one watches just improved enough for someone else to give a shit, or improved itself in general?

Also...

not nearly as autistic as I thought it'd be, but it's still pretty goddamn cringe

I'm sorry, but that page is still in need of some dire cleaning. Or better yet (with the obvious usual suspects on there.), a good formatting.

I liked that better when it was just 'Gannon Banned' and I thought it was about misspellings that people think are canon but aren't.

Worse than TVTropes is people who use "TV Tropes speak".

I mean, i can sorta let it go in its own forums, but I see people saying things like "omg so much nightmare fuel" on places like tumblr or youtube and I just sigh.

To be fair, "nightmare fuel" was a term before TV Tropes came along; it's used in a couple episodes of MST3K. Everything else, though... no excuse.

I just stumbled upon this in the Edit banned thread.

I don't know the context, but I kinda don't want to search for it. It's probably funnier that way.

Speaking of strange reasons for banning someone, one of my favorite posts on the edit ban thread was this one:

You were suspended for those vore-related posts on the discussion pages for Eat Me and Swallowed Whole. Your personal turn-ons are not germane to either of those pages in anydegree.

And your only other contributions were to JustForFun.Candle Jack, which makes us wonder if you have any intention of taking the wiki seriously. Our usual policy when someone appears to be using our site to masturbate is to full-ban them. The exception in your case is quite rare. So, since we're committed to "assume good faith", tell us what you want to do on the wiki that isn't spamming memes or trolling people with fetish material.
