The Film Diversity and Representation Thread is almost as bad: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=14553112620A06785800&page=285

They actually think Trump will start censoring stuff and that the US is going to become North Korea.

It's not entirely out of the ordinary. There was, in fact, an American politician that won a big office by appealing to poor, uneducated whites, was hated by the elite, behaved like an asshole, and drew unfavorable comparisons to Hitler. His name was Huey Long, the governor of Louisiana back in the 1930s. And yes, he did censor stuff and try to shut down newspapers that said unfavorable things. However, while a few mainstream publications have made connections between the two men (and TVTropes does have an article on him), I doubt that Tropers are that well-versed in the gubernatorial history of Louisiana.

They suuuure like overthinking things, don't they?

iirc most manga characters are drawn "raceless"/with weird colors because often they start out as manga, which are drawn in black and white, and when turned into anime they give them weird colors so each character stands out.

And also because most japanese look the same and want variety in their character designs...But that doesn't count when we can just add good ol' "whitewashing" into this shit.

  • A minor example, but square at the beginning he claims that Ace Attorney is "the game no one's ever played, but everyone knows the meme to". It's like he's blissfully unaware of the huge following that it has in America, with several pieces of fanart, many fansites, several parodies (videos and webcomics alike), and plenty of fanfictions including that one time Phoenix Wright defended Rainbow Dash. Which begs the question: if Ace Attorney is so obscure, then why does this video exist in the first place?

>"Ace Attorney is so popular it has a my little pony crossover fanfiction"

What the fuck tvtropes why do you have to reference My Little Pony in these completely unrelated pages?!

Ace Attorney is not that mainstream. It's one of Capcom's smallest franchises that they only keep around because it still makes them steady money.

Like Jesus what a delusion.

Ace Attorney is not a "blowing shit up" game or a "press R to win" game. So it's not going to be mainstream anytime soon.
