I thinkin the end, this is what makes Fandom wikis more reliable to tv tropes. I mean they also have stupid fights, woke shit, and people with no life.

But if there’s one thing most of them have is accuracy.

It’s way harder to bullshit in a fandom wiki, because it’s nearly impossible for another fan to notice it and instantly correct it. Or at least dispute it.

With tv tropes you can get away with lies so long as they are woke lies. Or if it is someone projecting their issues because again people with no life can and will make your life miserable for questioning them.

Now this wouldn’t be an issue if people didn’t rely on tvtropes for facts. Even some serious tv writers have confessed on relying on It, As painful it is for me to say it, tv tropes does have some influence in media.

This explains why most modern media is unwatchable garbage and a lot of the best media was made before the internet.

In case anyone's still thinking of anti-NFT tards, i caught a little number on the Misaimed Marketing page talking about WALL-E NFTs.

And while we're on the topic of bitching over nothing, there's a spergout in the description of the Dead Pet Sketch page calling it "discredited", because "animals are our friends and killing them is MEEEEEEEEEAAAAN!!!!" Cry me a fucking river, pussy. And while your at it, drown in said river.

A few Fandom wikis like Wookieepedia or Memory Alpha maybe, but smaller fandom wikis sometimes have the same problem where a single loud autist/group of autists controls certain articles which reflect their personal interpretation they're trying to pass off as canon. Most notorious was the Silent Hill Wiki where one of the mods believed one of the Silent Hill games was all about circumcision.

I admit you do have a point. I agree fandom wikis are not all perfect either.

But, I still would say some, and most of those dedicated to big franchised like Star Wars, are more trustable because they at least make an effort source their facts from somewhere. Even it is just an unpopular interpretation.

Meanwhile Tropers outright make up facts out of their assess with no way to effectively fact check them. The devil is in the details, and Tropers lie even in the smallest of things. So the lies do add up.

If it makes you feel any better TVT is bleeding users and has lost goodwill with almost all the internet by now
That doesn't surprise me. I wonder if there's a way to figure out the numbers (indirectly) or if we'll never know until it inevitably dies.

Considering the admins only ever show up to fix bugs they created and take down things in response to DMCA requests, I'm not surprised they haven't redesigned the site in five years. Maybe we'll get a redesign in 2028? Nah, who am I kidding - is TV Tropes even going to be around by then?

Sometimes I wonder what Eddie thinks about the site. Five million dollars must have been a satisfying payoff - for him - but I wonder if he still shows up from time to time like a regular at a bar, ordering his usual and sitting off to the corner while everyone else shoots him dirty glances. Giving up that much power probably didn't come easy to him, even if it came with a $5 mil price tag, and I know that some people on TV Tropes definitely hate Eddie for being a complete dictator and making their lives miserable (like his admin fiats that kept a trope with the same definition for an entire decade, even if that definition didn't match the trope itself).

As a matter of fact, I recall that Eddie once tried to change the definition of a trope in 2020, right after the BLM riots, only for the tropers to complain and Fighteer (consigliere and disgraced janny extraordinare) to declare that he has no veto power anymore and shut down his decision. For a man who was once king of the site and ruled with an iron fist, being knocked down to "lowly pleb" must sting.

Well, it's kind of inevitable if you're threatening to permanently ban people for around 8 bad edits over the course of several months.
That and I'm hoping it means people have started to collectively realize that the TV Tropes ideology towards media is just... bad.

I don't even mean just the woke shit. The entire philosophy of that website is so reductionist and wrong that it actively stifles the imagination and basically makes everything dull and hopeless.

That's one of my problems with most of the internet actually. Like recently, I wondered how anyone ever enjoyed not just TV Tropes, but also people like Lindsay Ellis or CinemaSins without ever seriously considering slitting their own wrists. When you spend 24 hours a day hearing "everything bad is all your fault and its impossible to be creative because every story has to be a variation of the same formulaic genre nonsense and anyone who tries something different is just being pretentious and is actually evil if they don't make everything a Care Bears PSA about how my views are the right ones" it makes you wonder.... what value do these people see in continuing to live?

Yeah, the mods are fucking psychopaths and that's gotta be the one of the biggest reasons people are moving away from the site. They ban you with no warning, deliberately make it hard to appeal and demand you suck their cocks until their happy. Even Reddit isn't that bad and that's saying something. Because at least with reddit, it's very personal and when you appeal a while later they tend to unban you. It doesn't help that it's becoming exceedingly obvious that people are mostly being banned for "political" reasons like wrongthink on protected pages or not worshipping trannies (which I suspect many of the mods are).

The other thing is that a lot of the other users are not normal people. You got guys like my nemesis I told you about some pages ago (who never responded again after that btw. I don't think he's used to being called out for his behavior.) who are fucking lunatics who take editing way too seriously and then you have literal children with no media literacy to speak of. So yeah, those assholes can have their shitheap. I'll stick around for a while but at the rate their cutting pages for being "flame wars" or for no good reason at all, I suspect I'll soon lose my reasons to go there.

Lol, that last bit took a turn. You are right though. TVT is a relic of the past and even talentless YouTubers who just read off pages like Overly Sarcastic are starting to realize it.

Relic of the past? If anything TV Tropes shows how the internet and the concept of "now everybody has a voice" is a double-edged sword. It turns out when literally anyone can speak and be heard then society quickly learns that 99% of its members are fucking retards and that letting them in on any relevant discourse is actually a sort of pollution. Instead of finding out that social structures have been silencing an army of secret scientists and philosophers, instead its just been filtering out trailer trash whose entire understanding of storytelling comes from children's cartoons and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

Then you go and read the words of even a mid-tier writer from before the internet, like Margaret Weis or Ursula K LeGuin, and right off the bat they sound way more intelligent.

I really do hate how petty the site really gets too especially on the harsher in hindsight real life section. You can just hear their rage well typing.
I remember in their end of an age trope on the real life section they linked an article well a lefty journalist was comparing Trump to dictators implying the end of an age of something.

Seriously These fuckers can't even hide their bias of they could.
