the places they use for "citations" never fail to crack me up.
Duke Nukem Forever suffered a bad example of this. The game positively rejoices in a very dated portrayal of female characters as damsels to be rescued and eye candy, is (seemingly) intended to be an example of Crosses the Line Twice, in a send-up of old action games and movies (and with a fairly large helping of Self-Deprecation).

ED says that them still using PmWiki makes them really vulnerable to vandalism attacks. Is that true? If so, any cases of them getting vandalized pretty badly? The only one I know and can see is the "TVTropes to Washout Tom" edit.
It's even funnier when they start judging the morals and values of 19-th century (and before) novels through modern lenses and condemning it for not being "progressive" enough.
Depends on how much they've overhauled the code since Fast Eddie left town. Most of what the admins have said implies that the problems are more the database just being really slow and inefficient... but then again, even they're not dumb enough to just come out and say "Oh yeah, any halfway enterprising hacker could buttfuck the site if they had ten minutes to spare!"
Ehh, to be completely fair, that's nothing new. I remember a lot of professional reviewers back in 2011 rambling on and on about how much more mature and sophisticated the world of gaming is now compared to the 90s. Which it really, really isn't; DNF's problem in that regard was that it somehow went backwards from where DN3D already was.

And even if they did, I bet they still wouldn't compare to FE himself. Considering the shit he's gotten himself into in the past. Even outside of the coding. Most of ED's info is still accurate. PmWiki is still there, they just modernized the hell out of the appearance, but the brain and guts is still PmWiki. Same CamelCase, same URL endings, most of the same bugs and quirks still exist. Also, most of the admins don't know shit about the technical guts of the site they moderate on, which is why they don't outright say anything that Fast Eddie level stupid about it.
- Senor Cornholio: Surprisingly, nobody's mentioned the 2016 reboot lately. While not the worst thing ever, it's certainly lackluster compared to the original, and even on its own, what with its bland writing, flanderized characters, and above all, its attempts to shove memes into episodes. In fact, I would have put down either the twerking scene from "Painbow" or Bubbles saying "No Me Gusta" from "Tiara Trouble", but then I discovered the true meaning behind the episode "Horn, Sweet Horn". Upon first viewing it, I thought it was just a weird MLP parody not too dissimilar to Pretty Pretty Pegasus, but what I didn't realize was that this was their attempt at an episode about transgenders. That's when we got the real shit; what was simply a pony wanting to be a unicorn was unceremoniously given a "deeper meaning of gender equality" for no reason aside from "Steven Universe did it, therefore we can!" And it's not even a good message; Donny may have wanted to be a unicorn, but Bubbles was the one that put the most pressure on him to make the decision to have his body modified. So he does get his body modified, and he turns into a freakshow. Great message, writers; transgenders are freakshows! Even worse is the ending; a bunch of unicorns appear, among which is Donny's own mother, who just so happens to be a unicorn. And Donny would have learned he was a unicorn as well if he'd just cut his hair! Not only does this undermine what kind of message they were going for, it completely debunks the whole "gender equality" issue in its entirety. Before I heard of this, I thought it was just a way to reference My Little Pony and saw it as simply mediocre. Now, I have to wonder what the hell the writers were thinking to tackle such an issue so early, and why they just had to have the moral shoehorned in?
- Another interpretation, Gaston is a man too caught up in being the "ideal man" in his community that he cannot express himself outside of macho stereotypes. It should be noted that while it has the trappings of wanting what you are denied, the audience doesn't really get to see the village itself and the only other women we see are swooning and passive with Gaston. Maybe deep down, he wants the woman who is different because she will actually display a personality despite what tradition says. Unfortunately as a product of the society, Gaston regurgitates these ideals (women shouldn't read & think) because it is what his culture tells him is proper. The fact that Belle is brave enough to buck these traditions despite the pressure of their culture may be what truly appeals to Gaston deep down, as a man so thoroughly trapped by the masculine ideal. Listen to his boastful song, that is either an extremely arrogant man who is supported in his arrogance by his peers, or a deeply insecure man whose life's purpose is "to be the best" and any deviation from that would render him worthless. Ultimately, his unwillingness/inability to change/escape his such trappings, and his twisted approach to courting/acquiring what he desires (Belle) is what leads to his downfall. Not blaming the village itself, as the village showed deep adoration for Gaston, they may have changed too once he was brave enough. However, Gaston had a choice of how he interacted with Belle and he chose poorly many times. As pointed out elsewhere, in a WMG, Beast and Gaston could easily have turned out like each other if a few details were changed.
