It's more of an liability issue, from my understanding.

Sure, it's an Darwin Award for going through with it, but you never know what people will sue for, nowadays.

Fighteer insulted the fans of Jim Sterling just by arguing with them. Both sides started throwing shit. Feelings were hurt, but not his. He was forced to apologize.

And today, Fighteer has brought on the second coming of this and everyone's feelings are being grievously injured.

Now, who wants to see their take on consoomerism?

It's beautiful how Fighteer can be right in a few small ways once in a while, but not without backlash from his own army of autists. They all deserve each other.

I don’t know if other people will see this as stupid (or possibly just gross), but I do. TvTropes is a site (almost) entirely driven by volunteer efforts put forth by fans, and as people have shown over almost 500 pages here, not even always well meaning or useful efforts.

The fact that they pop this up on every page you visit while using adblock, and the fact that it does not go away on its own irritates me on the same level as fan-translators having patreon. I understand hosting costs money. I have a website of my own. But you are trying to make money off the contributions of other people’s work, and I don’t like that.

anyway, that’s my stupid rant. maybe I’m alone on this, but it does drive me nuts.

Just use NoScript. It blocks ads without triggering the guilt-tripping.
