Trump’s Contempt for the Constitution

Donald Trump has, once again, shown his contempt for the Constitution and the rule of law. The President of the United States does NOT have the right to unilaterally take this country to war, even against a corrupt and brutal dictator like Maduro. The United States does NOT have the right, as Trump stated this morning, to “run” Venezuela. Congress must immediately pass a War Powers resolution to end this illegal military operation and reassert its constitutional responsibilities.

Trump’s attack on Venezuela will make the United States and the world less safe. This brazen violation of international law gives a green light to any nation on earth that may wish to attack another country to seize their resources or change their governments. This is the horrific logic of force that Putin used to justify his brutal attack on Ukraine.

Trump and his administration have often said they want to revive the Monroe Doctrine, claiming the United States has the right to dominate the affairs of the hemisphere. They have spoken openly about controlling Venezuela’s oil reserves, the largest in the world. This is rank imperialism. It recalls the darkest chapters of U.S. interventions in Latin America, which have left a terrible legacy. It will and should be condemned by the democratic world.

Trump campaigned for president on an “America First” platform. He claimed to be the “peace candidate.” At a time when 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, when our healthcare system is collapsing, when people cannot afford housing and when AI threatens millions of jobs, it is time for the president to focus on the crises facing this country and end this military adventurism abroad. Trump is failing in his job to “run” the United States. He should not be trying to “run” Venezuela.

Bernie Sanders is a US Senator, and the ranking member of the Senate budget committee. He represents the state of Vermont, and is the longest-serving independent in the history of Congress.

Fuck off, you Stalin-loving old faggot. You don't get to have it both ways. We know you faggots would've leaked and compromised the mission for your precious dictator.

"You should dislike Trump because he's done horrible things, such as [proceeds to cite a bunch of bade shit he has done]". I love seeing commies seethe.

You're shitting up the section with your SNCA again.

No one in Congress cared when Biden approved (or more likely was made to sign without his consent) a operation to bomb Nordstream and fucking cripple the German economy, which is a Ally of the USA.

So shut the fuck up you worthless commie kike.

hey Bernie, nice to hear from you again. how's your political irrelevancy going? you ever regret trading in all your principles and becoming a DNC puppet? see you in hell, faggot. God willing, I'll be in the ice next to you tearing off your scalp with my fucking teeth for eternity.

Fucking decide whether the USA is going to take Venezuela oil which will be good for the average American, or the action has no economical reason.

Either way killing America's enemies is always a better use of money than keep pouring money on welfare. Or more likely welfare scams that politicians like Sanders would never admit that happened.

I'm pretty sure this old codger shat all over the American Constitution before for one reason or another, and now he pretends to act outraged over its presumptuous violation by Trump.

If you take this shit seriously, consider donating your brain for science. A new form of intellectual impairment will be found.

I do love Commie tears and their self-outing as evil parasites in public. The few that have tried at work got boo’d and one even got their lunch eaten/stolen.

It's not stealing when you do it to commies. It's redistributing their goods to those in need (of an extra lunch).

Take it up with the War Powers Act that Congress passed way back during the Nixon Administration. The law Congress passed that explicitly said the president has the authority to act like Pres. Trump just did.

Were we actually taken to war or was Trump just ordering the Venezuela guy to be taken captured? Because one involves everyone in the military and the other is just an ordered political kidnapping. They cheered on the political assassination of an American conservative commentator, and now they are complaining about an actual dictator getting captured? Dear god, I can no longer tell if the left/Dems are for or against dictators.

They're against democratically elected leaders they don't agree with and would be fine killing them or whatever.

They're for brutal dictators that will torture themselves and everyone as long as they are 'on their side'.

Trump’s contempt for socialists does not constitute contempt for the US Constitution.

I suppose Trump isn't too delicate about the law and extension the constitution. His speciality was and is lawfare, but making the point in the Marxist cum rag 'Counterpunch' is an argument lost. Anyhow, it's pure cope, seethe and dilate. Trump did it because he could (whether it was some deal where Maduro will get a comfy exile after a decent interval or a deal with Chavista power vertical to sell out Maduro, a simple grab of the Maduros or part of some effort to restore Venezuela, or a mixture of the three which is highly possible) and Maduro is a bad hombre.

Go away fuck off and go die in one of your mansions, you old marxist fuck.

This.

Scream "WAR" (or in your case? "WAH!") all you like, the law says it wasn't and he didn't need to ask you for shit.

For all the times you've claimed Trump has broken the law by declaring war illegally? You guys certainly aren't in a rush to repeal that Act, are you?

Your inactions speak louder than your words words words words words words......

This is the kind of thing where I'm genuinely disturbed by the trajectory of the country but:
1) This has been going on since at least the start of the Cold War
2) I don't see any way to walk this back
3) The Left uses presidential power in the same way, and does it constantly (LBJ Vietnam, Clinton Kosovo, O-bomb-ya all come immediately to mind)

America being a nice place mostly owes something to its founding system of government and a huge chunk of that was the executive branch not acting like an elected king. But here we are. Police actions and executive orders are nasty business but everyone wants them.
