You can argue it either way, because the surrealists were sex freaks; Rrose Selavy was a phonetic pun for 'Eros, c’est la vie' or love (as in sex) is life, and appeared in portraits on a perfume bottle of his own breath called Belle Haleine (beautiful breath). A lot of the surrealist stuff was to do with sexuality, and used cross dressing / androgny and gender norms - the most famous one is LHOOQ or La Jaconde which is a picture of the mona lisa with a moustache and goatee and a pun for 'there is a fire down below'.
