A way to get a new beginning, a release from all of the burdens of their past, all of the problems inherent to them as a person. It sometimes works with drug/alcohol problems- IF the move is also accompanied by a change in other behaviors and social activities. But because the primary motivator for trooning is the Internet, you can't just move away from that.

That's a really great way to win people over to your side before they even know anything about you, just assert that they're a bad person and that they owe you a debt of compassion.

I don't think the anime treatment of french maids has much effect on it, other than how they act out the french maid archetype.
