We're a group of around 10 middle-aged moms who read romance, cozy mysteries, whatever YA dystopian bullshit is trending with the kids these days and true crime. And we like it that way. A couple of times a year someone will join and try to revolutionize us by getting us to read some flavor of the rainbow and abandon the club once they realize we won't immediately become handmaidens, foaming at the mouth to educate ourselves about the plight of the LGBTQ+.

We had a girl leave the meeting in a snit because she had us read "Ivy Aberdeen's Letter to the World" and were more interested in talking about the mom character (who gave birth to twins at 41!) than the main girl. It wasn't a bad book by any means, but a preteen having a crush on another girl is hardly interesting to our age group.

We had one MPreg read. It was actually an engaging book, but again, the one who suggested it wanted us to fawn over the MM couple while we were more interested in the logic behind the butt-birth. She also left the club immediately after, said she didn't feel 'welcome'.

It's all very silly.
