They know what you're doing because your language is carefully handpicked to signal that you know what they're doing. You're informing them that they stand out from people you'd normally call "she" and in turn clocking them in the politest way possible. You are playing by the rules and still refusing to play their games. Their enemy isn't a horrible bigot spitting "tranny" and "groomer" in their face, just a polite citizen that doesn't want any part in their identity games, and they can't be openly upset about it.

Spergs on here will say that modifying all language around them to be gender neutral is a form of capitulation, but it's a much greater mindfuck for them than being confrontational.
