Admittedly, our victory was significantly aided by the fact that the Communists in this instance only had the support of a very small ethnic minority as opposed to broad support from basically everyone, but still. We Britons can't be too picky about bragging rights, as we have so few of them.

It’s not really as painful as you think it is. Owners don’t import American goods anymore and they replace it with twice as much of the Canadian alternative. It’s actually really good for the country to see them start to be more self-sufficient. Honestly, I’d prefer if we keep the tariffs this is a great thing long term, we can do some more trade with Europe and cut Americans out entirely with exceptions to energy production and refining.

I mean, maybe but look….It’s a 1.2 billion dollar border plan that’s going to take like….7-10 years to realistically implement, at a cost that’s already going to swell our already swelled deficit. Canadian leadership is going to change anyway in the next year and Pierre has already proposed a border plan like this a year ago. I suppose most people missed the “joint effort” in that post, guess who’s paying part of that?

It’s not cope so much as it’s just a grand gesture towards something that’ll be done by the time Trump is gone and provided it is finished, it was planned to happen anyway. We basically traded Trump nothing and got something. I can’t believe Trudeau even pulled this off because he’s a gigantic moron and a faggot. I can’t believe Trump called him a tough guy. lmao

It's probably better that the tariffs didn't' go through, certainly in the short term, but there's no way Canada is going to push for any meaningful self-sufficiency now. We could have bucked down for a rough few years and ramped up Canadian manufacturing, invested in better cross Canada infrastructure, and moved toward exploiting as much of the country's resources as possible for the benefit of Canadians. Now, everyone is just going to forget this ever happened and get just as fucked next time something happens to put a kink in our free-trade agreements for real.
