I am SHOCKED this trailer is as boring as it is. Instead of showcasing Cathay in any memorable way, it focuses on the LL as if she were a DLC character.

Not a good sign AT ALL.

Ngl I am surprised with Cathay. I was expecting borderline high fantasy faction with no humans and just a shit ton of monsters. I am glad they are an actual human faction, that consists mostly of humans and human inventions. Even the fantastical units they have aren't that bad, the giant terracotta dude looks cool and I like the dragon. They seem like a mix of Empire and Dwarves, with a healthy amount of that Chinese mythology on stop. I like them.

The Tzeentch stuff looks pretty good. Can barely tell though, the lighting is a bit shit so you can't really make out any of their details. All I know is Marauders are just a flatout reskin, unfortunately. The disk boys are cool.

Well, to be fair, not like there are many Cathay LLs that are "expected" or known. Not like for Kislev everyone knew it was going to be Katarin or Khorne it was likely to be Skarbrand. This is basically an OC/newly created character by GW for the background faction of Cathay. If it's not the Dragon Emperor, who is it? Oh it's his daughter, ok.

A lot of reskins I am seeing. Furies, Chaos Spawn, Marauders, Soul Grinders. Basically what I was worried might happen is happening. A lot of common units with a few stat changes and a re-skin. The standout parts of the disks of Tzeentch look good and Kairos does as well, but some of the others is worrying. No doubt they will throw some unique units in DLCs, which is expected.

Yeah kicking myself for giving them credit, I saw some of the released screenshots. God I hope it was a render problem or a place holder because those Spawn look like complete shit. Starting to realise why the Tzeentch units were kept in the dark.

I am dreading that each God plays the exact same. I will have a tissue box ready for the Slaanesh reveal.

Imo if there is one faction to get the short end of the stick, it's going to be Slaanesh. I believe they had the least units in the Daemon roster, with it being Daemonetts, a bunch of mounts/chariots, and the Keeper of Secrets. When you compare Khorne, Tzeentch, and Nurgle, they all had a noticeable design feature in mind, and Slaanesh I believe was left as the dust compared to those three, especially as the End Times rolled around, where Khorne and Nurgle got some significant unit/lord representation.

Yep, being a Slaanesh fan is pain. I'm expecting the worst.

Another big problem with Slaanesh is she has a good bit of Calvary and chariots, which aren't unit types with a record of being super amazing in TW:W.

This might be controversial but I hope they just bring over some of the Age of Sigmar units. They're some of the best Slaanesh models out there and they would really spice Slaanesh up.

My biggest worry is that with Slaanesh there's basically two facets that I know of for the prince's units. They're FAST and they usually come with some form of mind-fuckery baked in. Having fast units is totally a doable thing in TW, Slaanesh getting heavy mobility can be done and may even have some use in battles.

Portraying the ability to seduce or mentally screw with the enemy is going to be much harder to actually portray. It will either mean some generic debuff spells or auras, or it will mean the ability to 'recruit' enemy units in the campaign by corrupting them. The latter is interesting in campaign but makes it a total non-presence in multiplayer.

Compare that to Khorne's 'BIG ANGRY FIRE', Tzeentch getting weird demons with loads of magic, and Nurgle being an unstoppable stankwall and I'm expecting Slaanesh to be 'Sir Not Appearing In This Picture'. Not to mention they'll not want to make weirdly sexual creatures as a major focus despite all of Slaanesh's creations are basically a legion of BDSM gremlins.

Oh absolutely, or at least "be inspired" by them, either at launch or in DLC. The recent additions from AOS to Slaanesh are instantly noticeable and unique. Glutos Orscollion is probably one of the most "Slaaneshi" models there is. Just a mutated fat man smoking on a hookah and feeding on "choice cuts" on a beautiful marble chariot/palanquin on by cushions, surrounded by servants who do all the work for him, all the while being eternally hungry and projecting his hunger to everyone around him.

Or Blissbarb archers. What's that, Chaos has some scantily clad gold armoured archers when Chaos never has any archery? Yes please.

Another good reason for them getting the short stick on launch. Again, AOS does have some spell ideas that can come in and look good, but otherwise it's just going be a bunch of debuffs or campaign mechanics, which seems possibly underwhelming.

Sad, was looking forward to a potential Christmas purchase. Well, so long as it avoids the shit of Rome 2, then it's all good. Hopefully Cathay impresses.
Rome 2 turned out to be good after a while. I foolishly got it on release. It was incredibly unstable. Were the testers (including some fan forum wankers) taking drugs? It was later brought up to a high standard, a standard it should have met on release. Attila was fine when I got it a bit after release.

I'm not terribly convinced they had any actual testers for a lot of Rome 2's development, the number of issues it had utterly perplexes me. Warhammer 1 had some issues too though it was more balance and stupid decisions like how enemy armies would spend all their time running the hell away on forced march.

As a fan of sneks, Slaanesh needs some more love. Bring in Dechala the Denied as their new LL, add in all sorts of nasty debuffs on their weapons with leadership, melee skills, hell even Berserk for some RoR archers.

Eh, the issue with Slaanesh is that aside from SPEED, they don't really have any sort of mandated style. Nurgle and Khorne are all about getting stuck in, one quickly, one slowly, and Tzeentch is all about staying the fuck away, but Slaanesh has no strong feelings one way or the other on melee combat. A master archer is no lesser than a master swordsman to Slaanesh, after all. They could be the well-rounded faction, with a very elfy combat style of speed, skirmishing, and dickery, but I don't think that would fly.

Honestly I'd like if they had Slaanesh actually do something interesting like have more options, the Dark Prince (ironically) needs some love when it comes to factional ideas. Those AoS models shown in thread are kinda neat though.

Giving Slaanesh archers would make the speed theme actually useful, even if they're not as impressive as elven archers since that's one of their big pillars of factional strength.

Speed alone could make Slaanesh fun to play, but only if CA REALLY plays it up. Make the daemonettes and warriors so fast that heavy cavalry struggles to catch up to them, give the skirmishers enough speed to outrun missiles, stuff like that.

When can we have an actual real-life inspired Total War game. It seems everything is going to fantasy-shit which is fine and all but I want to see another realistic depiction, not some crappy Warhammer wannabe expansion for Troy.

Anyone also notice how consoomeristic the Total War fanbase has become lately?

Never tbh. Once they opened the gate for fantasy stuff real life things became dull for the masses. It's a genie that's been let out of the bottle, can't be put back.

Also yes, the fanbase has become extremely consoomerist, which is why it's best to stay away from them.

What time period would they cover if they did though? I think all the main ones involving large scale wars have been done.

A total war game set in ww2 or after would probably be shit, ww1 might be doable and the years before that (russia japan war, spanish American war, Boer war etc). Make the gameplay similar to fall of the shogun.

Sigh oh well. I've been taking some redpills about the franchise thanks to Volound and it pains me that I'll just keep playing Shogun 2 for the time being.
