Personally I hate how Total War devs/CA has been pushing for more and more campaign map-level gizmos and bullshit and not fixing the goddamn AI and the way battles work. No one plays Total War to fuck around with the city building bullshit or the sliders or whatever they want you to micromanage. I play it for the tactical battles. Getting away from this and emphasizing the campaign map in the last few entries has been a disaster, and the game has never really recovered from the absolute abysmal engine that they've been using since Empire. It simply doesn't work for anything other than line infantry musket battles.

Until they fix this (they won't) I won't buy another game. I won't even waste disc space and pirate them, doubly so if they continue to shit out gay faggot fantasy bullshit.
3K was the worst for this. Once the novelty of the synchronized duel system wore off, all anyone talked about was the campaign. The campaign map should be in service of the battles, not the other way around. Supposedly Troy and Pharaoh have a better mix, but I can't be bothered to spend money on either of them. I believe CA are too lazy/incompetent to improve the battles, so they shove as much extra bullshit as they can into the recent games and DLCs to justify their existence. This is also why we'll never get a proper Medieval 3/Empire 2 game. Total War in its current form cannot survive without 3rd party tie-ins like Warhammer because CA is incapable of making games good enough to stand on their own.
Total War sperg Volound (who also has a thread here) revealed from two sources within Creative Assembly (CA) that Rob Bartholomew, the Chief Product Officer that was responsible for the Shadows of Change DLC and its pricing in Total War: Warhammer III, has been sacked. In addition, 371 out of 882 (42%) staff members at CA were laid off.

This reminds me of a recent MATI where Josh talked about execs acting as PR punching bags. This guy came out of nowhere(atleast in the eyes of your average r/totalwar user) and became a lightening rod for community frustration at CA's business practices. Now they can celebrate while the fundamental problems go largely unaddressed. Hopefully the faggots who worked on Hyenas were first on the chopping block :optimistic:

The trouble with 3k is the battle system actually has a lot of really fun mechanics they just straight up never, ever did anything with. Formations are the most advanced they've ever been in terms of what you can do with them, units can finally be made of multiple different soldiers for mixed spear/archer units that can be set in a spearwall with the archers ready to fire thanks to said kickass formations, there's awesome stuff like burning down forests with fire arrows to root out anyone who is hiding in them, sieges are back and really awesome... but all the unit stats are heavily based on the Attila-style rock-paper-scissors mechanic so you get militia swordsmen that have more charge bonus than some cavalry and militia jis that can absolutely murder cataphracts simply by standing still when charged thanks to Charge Reflection, and the skill system completely fucked over so much of that since there's a general skill that lets said militia swordsmen ignore any and all charges while braced. Oh, and the recruitment system was shit, what with units being locked to both specific types of generals and locked behind certain levels for said generals, so you had to grind them if you wanted to recruit anything worthwhile.

And on top of that they made the dumbass Romance mode nobody fucking wanted the default for fucking everything, even MP battles, so say hello to hilarious imbalances, like a guy running triple Zhang Feis wrecking your whole line with a simultaneous morale-crushing Warcry from all three of them.

Oh, and perhaps worst of all, due to CA going so fucking hard on those Chinabux the Workshop is completely overrun by Chinkshit, so good luck finding anything of actual quality there, never mind in English.

So, apparently CA is having a spazz or something and has been on a banning spree on the steam forums. Then they made a tone-deaf statement, then they made an apology.
Typical corporate imbeciles, but it's kind of a fun trash fire.

Some links with info, and as always, take everything these internet whores tell you with a good dose of salt.
The statement: https://archive.is/ZlD5A
The apology: https://archive.ph/TPBXL

And the absolute cherry on this shit cake, the following statement from these anglo faggots.
"The right to discuss is a privilege"

So, add another reason why the UK is a shithole.

You know things are bad when the rabid bootlickers of reddit are turning on you. CA has the reverse Midas touch it seems, everything they did lately turns to shit.

I wish someone made an honest attempt at an industrial warfare Total War. It wouldn't work with the same scale, reailsm and gameplay, wouldn't really work as the same brand either, but I don't see why a pretty detailed map of Europe or the Middle East couldn't have Wargame/Steel Division battles. Wargame and Company of Heroes have played with this at what I think you'd call the operational level, but nobody's tried it at a grand strategic level.

The Great War: Western Front came the closest in its attempt, but everyone says it sucked.

You really can't do it when battlefield units are as loose as they are in the WW1/WW2 era. A company will break down into platoons, which will all act independently, and then their squads will also act independently, and you have combined arms playing a massive role, like integrated MG teams and such... It would be a fucking disaster to try and keep track of for a commander unless he wants just 200 guys with Garands lining up to fire at 200 Germans armed with K98s.

Total War "Content Creators" are having a fun time.

Total War Shillfluencer Saga.mp4
Ever talked with someone and they tell you they don't use ad blockers?
Did your face suddenly cringe and you saw before yourself, not a human being, but festering dogshit? Your skin crawls and all your senses tell you that you should leave, before the smell reaches you.
That's how I feel about anyone who actually believes these "influencers".
How much of a soulless drone NPC do you have to be, to give any semblance of credence to some faggot with a jewtube channel telling you should buy his snake oil.
Fuck man! Couldn't be me!

Total War sperg Volound
as much as I like seeing these corporates faggots what they deserve Volound is still the Scottish version of Sargon with all the smug chuckling he does. It acutally makes me so angry that I stop listening to his video midway through.

Huge statement from Total War's leadership. Shadows of Change getting more shit added. Thrones of Decay being delayed, and will also be getting more content than planned. Planning to keep up the more frequent schedule for updates/hot fixes.

The big one though is Pharaoh getting all editions except base removed, base game getting a massive price drop to $39.99/£29.99 (with retroactive partial refunds for the retards who shelled out on it already) and what was originally going to be the first paid DLC will instead be a free update.

Yeah, I saw this earlier today. I haven't seen a corporation publicly announce a 180 on their plans to fuck over their customer base this fast in a long, long time, perhaps ever.

I saw the video legendoftotalwar did of this and it was really depressing seeing 95% of the comments being "this is a good first step". At this point how can you not have Stockholm syndrome when you defend the most vapid, by the numbers, corporate """""""""apology""""""""" ever? Its like people are in denial that Total War has been dead for like 10+ years and think that they just need to release one more historical title to turn it around, like if the setting was ever really the problem and not the retarded broken AI among the other plethora of bugs the games have had since Shogun 1.

Also, maybe its just me but, even legendoftotalwar, for all the praise he gets, gives me this strong vibe were he would go back to the CA partner program in a heartbeat if they ever asked.

The fact that it's "We're going to go and add 'content' to the DLC to make it worth the price" and not "We're going to lower the price" is what gets me. They're not backing down or reversing course on the DLC price hike that help spark this whole debacle. They're just going to continue to say that their work is "premium quality" and list all DLCs going forward at the increased rate. Saying that you're delaying the next DLC to make sure it's "done right" is an easier sell than "we're delaying it because a huge chunk of our staff was 'made redundant'."
Pharaoh is fucking dead, either way, I wasn't going to buy it at that price or this one. It's going to get the Three Kingdoms treatment and dropped next year, unless they suddenly sell 100k copies for Christmas at this new price point.

This could work out well. Rome 2 was an unstable horror with many design problems. It also involved the then version of social media faggots (like some shitbag, fart hoofer who posted day and night on the Heavengames and some other forum and did some meh mods). Later, given time, Rome 2 became a very good game indeed. Pharaoh worked okay out of the box, but the launch price was lunacy (for basically a Troy mod) and the design needs more work.

Make it or break it for CA it seems. Took people from their main cash generating series to do Hyenas: Trans Hero Shooter, which flopped to fuck with BILLIONS wasted. Many got laid off/left, fans of Total War upset. Probably on their knees begging to be taken out the back if they don't try and course correct.

It's not out of the goodness of their heart, as always this is very calculated business decision. Hyenas was cancelled so all Creative Assembly has at this point is Total War, which means if they don't want to close down they have to appease the shitstorm that's been growing in the fanbase for years.

Oh, I'm under no illusions on why they're doing this. In my mind's eye I could see Roger Collum sobbing from frustration and contemplating the taste of gunmetal as he typed this up as a result of how brutally his plans to soak the fans for all they were worth were horribly derailed by all of the plebs standing up and demanding something of actual value for what they're paying.

I hope we're all familiar with the faces made Todd made when Starfield got crushed by BG3 at the VGA, because I was envisioning something similar.

I think someone has the opportunity to make the BattleBit of Total War.

What do I mean?

First, my apologies if I've already said this somewhere. Now, what I mean is that BattleBit made a big splash because despite looking like blocky indie game shit it delivered extremely polished Battlefield gameplay. It focused all in on gameplay to the exclusion of other things (spectacle).

Total War could, at its most abstract, be portrayed as a game of geometry. There's this valley between good graphics and bad graphics where improving the graphics actually makes it worse because it is too bad to look good but too good to be an intentional stylistic choice. Well, there is nothing about Total War that can't be expressed through simple geometric shapes, colored maps of terrain, and so on. Very clean. Moreover, if the differences between units come down to, say, art of the soldier at the most, then it becomes very easy to add lots of variety. Without animations it becomes very easy to add any type of unit you can think of, from the Bronze Age to pre-WW1, as long as it fits into the basic framework of "moves and fights as a geometric shape."

You could have a Total War that runs on the cheapest laptops, has the most polished gameplay in the world, and is modular to where it can serve any timeframe - like, churn out DLCs of entire eras and sell them for a few dollars - and it would lose the spectacle customers, but may just gain the core fans, like BattleBit.

I don't think it would even be that hard, aside from AI, to make such a thing.
