the modern internet right-wing (alt-right, whatever you want to call it) attracts young abrasive guys who just want an excuse to be provocative and rub people the wrong way. It's just conveniently a very easy way to make people mad in the current year.
Other than the fact that it's a political movement for mental retards, I think this is the biggest reason why it hasn't really spawned anything new of substance as far as anything intellectual or political goes.
While it's always had some retards involved in it, the 'altright' didn't become the laughingstock of a toxic cesspool it is now overnight. Even some of the figures we regard as it's leading beacons for homo-flavored retardation once had some credibility, until they mysteriously made every move/decision that someone determined on self-destruction, for themselves and anyone listening, would make.
I used to read MPC alot, as did probably every altright eceleb or wannabe, in the years leading up to Trump's election, and those following it, and that site was just as influential as pol was for awhile. There's still some content makers who stuck to focussing on content above notoriety that started from there floating around. MPC was always verbally raping the 'ethnostate' pipedreamers, and often recommend the self-improvement/irl community-building/ local offline politics, while rejecting being a defined and explicit online presence, approach for anyone serious n sincere, but I guess that doesn't encourage online clicks, ecred and fame.
Anyway, I remember there was a short window of time where the retard 'leaders' could've chose to just focus on their content, instead of falling for the "I'm a very important serious thinker/leader" bullshit, and making anything positive they may have contributed worse than meaningless. Instead of doing the most obviously stupid shit, like having your anonymous online following dox themselves in public, while marching into the crosshairs of the very ruthless, pragmatic powers you've warned them about for years on end, they could've stayed out of the mainstream spotlight, and encouraged ideas that would support working class populism.

Rogan, to me, is a guy that isn't all that funny himself, but he does have enough self-awareness to know how to surround himself with the right elements to have funny n entertaining shows
