Your "child" was old enough to make his own dumb decisions. If he was dumb enough to decide that he wanted to stab an officer, then that's entirely on him. The city should be suing the parents for wasting their time and for failing to properly take care of their obviously mentally ill "child". I honestly feel sorry for the dumb fuck. Chances are he only ended up like this because his parents were just that exceptional and refused to give him the care he needed (although the exceptionalism of his fellow students probably made him worse too). Still that scream at the end didn't make me feel very sorry, it just made me wonder "what did you think was going to happen?!"

To be fair, you can’t have it both ways. This guy was an adult; his parents can’t demand that he get or continue with mental health treatment. Unless he’s under a conservatorship or some other legal guardian protection, his choices were his own.

Now they can tell their son “Hey, if we’re paying for college, then you must commit to mental health treatment” or some other such ultimatum; we don’t know to what extent those kind of boundaries were (or were not) in place. But in the end he was solely responsible.

That said suing the cops is bullshit, they should be suing the school— but I’ll bet they found that the school didn’t violate any of their student care provisions so their lawyer thought the cops an easier target.

I'm surprised they only fired once. Don't the police usually magdump in these cases because firing once somehow means you weren't in mortal danger? Or is that just a problem for civilians who find themselves in self-defense situations?

It depends entirely on the cop's level of experience and/or training, along with dept. doctrine. I will say that it takes officers with cool heads on their shoulders, good situational awareness, and a modicum of decent training for it to have only needed a single shot. After the first, auditory (and sometimes stress-induced visual) exclusion happens, along with an adrenaline spike and the tunnel vision that goes with it.

There are a lot of cops (especially rookies, but it can happen to anyone) who swear they only fired once or twice, but in reality shot twice as many rounds, or even almost empty the mag. This is why any time an officer discharges their sidearm, the first thing a supervisor does is collect names, magazines, and a round count with an IA (or union rep) witness; asking "how many rounds did you fire" is merely incidental, and the question is primarily a tactic to help the officer calm down.

Sounds like you've got some first-hand experience. Would you rather be shot or stabbed? I'm morbidly curious about which one hurts worse

My first-hand experience with others being shot comes from being a combat lifesaver (not a medic, but with the same kit & abbreviate medic training)..... and living in some serious 'hoods in my wayward youth.

Being stabbed? That comes from my own carelessness... and seeing people get stabbed while living in some serious 'hoods, after my wayward youth.

And honestly..... shot. You know it when it happens, even if it causes immediate shock. Just the impact is akin to being beaned with a fastball from an AA pitcher, at least. And that's if it doesn't hit bone. Otherwise it's surprising as fuck, but not immediately incapacitating. The real hurt comes from bruising & swelling later.

The AK round that my plate caught doesn't really count; as it skipped off something beforehand, so some of the energy was expended, but it still left a good welt and a deep bruise for a while later. If anything, that was like being catching one in the ribs from a softball thrown by Bob from accounting, who'd been spending time in a pitching cage.

But being stabbed? Yeah.... not so much; straight punctures are a lot harder to spot, exhibit less pain around the area (until swelling starts), and are difficult to deal with if one causes a large bleed internally.

And holy shit, even if the blade goes shallow and only makes a half-assed salami slice, those generally start to bleed profusely immediately, and usually the sight of some meat flapping around will take the piss out of most anyone.

Always with the bronies... He looks exactly how you'd expect him to. Imagine your obituary/death article photos being crammed full of your horrendous pony plushy collection. :story:

Was he allergic to dignity?

If you wave knives at the cops and advance when they tell you to not move...yes you will be next....play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Troons literally trying to play the same "I'm always afraid for my life" card as dindu nuffins now :story:

I wonder why they're only filing a lolsuit now, 2 years after he died. "Scout" is a pretty good example of why you shouldn't encourage weak failures to go supernova with their bullshit. Being normal is protective if you're a weak person.

The issue wasn't that the cops were in immediate threat from the loony tune. It was that they had a guy with a knife threatening to hurt people wandering around in an open outdoor area with lots of people with which to get all stabby. The police could only restrict his movement so much. Either he goes to move or comes at them. And when he does either somebody pulls the trigger.

as for what is worse getting shot or stabbed? I've dealt with more of each than any stable person should ever have to. (treated the victims I mean.) And honestly, It all depends on where and with what. The worst is probably getting stabbed in the abdomen with something nasty getting perforated such as intestines or bowel. Just from the amount of long term fuck you up, should you survive. But it's all relative. (as for absolute worst? Fire! The answer is always Fire!)

Wasn't this a pretty by the book suicide by cop?

Textbook

I swear I've seen this guy before.

He could be Brianna Wu's twin

There was no child; the troon was 21.
There was no wrongful death either.
