A Georgia Tech student shot dead by police made a 911 call about a suspicious man on campus before the deadly encounter, state investigators said Monday night.
Cops responded to a call of a person with a knife and gun at 11:17 p.m., and encountered 21-year-old Scout Schultz when they arrived at the scene, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.
In the 911 call, Shultz described the suspicious person on campus as a white man who was possibly drunk, had long blond hair, a white T-shirt and blue jeans, the GBI said. The man was also carrying a knife and may have had a gun on his hip, the caller said.
Investigators said Schultz was armed with a knife and ignored the officers' commands to drop the weapon. Schultz continued toward them before one officer fired at Schultz, the GBI said.
"Shoot me!" the barefoot student shouted, according to cell phone video.
Schultz was fatally wounded with a single shot to the heart and died at a local hospital. Three suicide notes were found in Schultz's dorm and a multipurpose tool containing the knife was taken from the scene, according to the GBI.
