In relation to lolcow levels in anti-gg/cg vs pro-gg/cg
I think in a couple of years you're going to see more and more pro-gg, pro-cg lolcows as anti-sjw sentiment saturates the net-ensuring dumb losers pick up these idea's without context or restraint. I've already seen a couple of total shitheads emerging in my various feeds the other day defending a total creeper from 'prudish sjw's' because those 'virtue signallers' don't think it's appropriate to ask women about their wanking habits.
I'm really looking forward to the human dog fights which will occur when this generation of unlikable incels who devour sargon of akhad video's and think jordan peterson is their obi-wan get enough numbers to really shine. It's going to be great watching Tim and his buddies fighting people just as dumb and unpleasent as they are while getting more and more upset that they exist and have invaded their little safe space internet world.
Back when GG was going strong, I thought that the very nature of GG and the population of the assholes who were of the belief that the SJWs had to be fought with scorched earth tactics meant that eventually, those clowns would come to dominate Gamergate as a movement, in an analogous fashion to what happened when proto-SJWs took over and destroyed the likes of the Occupy Wall Street movement, and destined to end up a goddamned footnote.
This notion turned out to be incorrect, for a few reasons.
Occupy was taken over because of the Lolcow Singularity that was the progressive blogosphere. It started with only a few dozen protestors and a vicious focus on Wall Street, but when there was a media circus to take advantage of, every progressive on the eastern seaboard showed up to let their freak flag fly. Between these assholes and ANTIFA, Occupy quickly metamorphosed from having a laser focus on accountability for the 2008 financial crisis to being a rampaging clusterfuck of progressive ideals, all of which led to one of the most insane interviews ever filmed. It was taken over from the top down by sheer numbers (and Autism), and the original starters wanted nothing to do with it afterwards.
To compare, Gamergate was both Autistic as hell from the start and acutely
aware of said Autism. So it was organic. It never had a
chance in the mainstream press so there was no microphone to take over. Even more so, it never had leadership beyond a public consensus and it didn't have anyone who had the numbers to take it over (in its opening days it had over 18,000 people; it could and did take over GG opponents' hashtags just through sheer muscle). The combination of a leaderless nature and a huge numbers-based imprint meant that GG supporters, on average, kept discussions focused and on-task. There was a lot of meandering, of course, but for a hashtag movement with half a million people in it at apogee, that's fine, and since so many of the same issues are legitimately
connected when it comes to GG - you can't discuss the incestuous relationship between the indie gaming press and developers without also discussing the attempted push by progressivism to decide what is and is not culturally relevant, you can't discuss those without discussing why sites like Gawker were openly pushing the same talking points, and if you're going to cover
those, you're going to eventually cover the fact that so much of GG's opposition are financially supporting one another, the corruption of the IGF, and so on, such diversions weren't really unexpected or a problem. Additionally, GG supporters aggressively policed the hashtag. Try legitimately harassing someone using the hashtag under a shitposting account and watch how fast you got reported by other GG supporters.
Which brings me to one of my favorite examples of this phenomenon in action,
this guy.
For the uninitiated, Homer was (and still is) an asshole. He also happens to be a perfect encapsulation of why lolcow prevalence on the side of those
facing the SJWs is comparatively low. Any time he posted something of relevance regarding GG he proceeded to undermine it by shrieking about how feminists were evil and needed to be burned at the stake. As such, even when he had comparatively good things to share, he would undermine them by being a fucking sped. No one had time or patience for that shit, so what happened is that GG supporters openly mocked his ass. It was fucking
beautiful. Eventually he got pushed out. In fact, it was Gamergate supporters who wound up costing him his initial Twitter account, when they reported him repeatedly for threatening Brianna Wu.
If you're willing to spend
far too much time digging through the Autism War archives on the Farms, you'll discover, rather delightfully, that Homer quickly got made fun of by every single side, pretty much regardless of how they felt about the hashtag - GG supporters mocked him for being a fucking idiot, GG opponents mocked him for being laughably out of touch with reality, and neutrals laughed because holy shit, look at this insane fucker that's getting made fun of by both sides. He wasn't even the only example of it on these boards, either - watch the likes of Lord Balderdash/Lord Rainbowdash/Wulfgar Hetzer and you'll see the same shit play out. In fact, with minimal exceptions, every GG-supporting cow we cover is an outcast in a similar fashion (such as Vordrak, who got told to go fuck himself by KIA).
TL;DR: Extremists in the *gate movements inevitably tip their hands and will without exception get mocked for it. Because of this, they usually wind up outcasts from the movements in short order and are all-too-often mocked by all sides, which leads to their further ostracization.
