We need to be real about TTG hatred on some level--it's a massive middle finger to fans of the original show and it deserves flack for being the heartless shitstorm it is.

When viewed on its own and not knowing it was based off of the 00's show, it really is just a generic kid comedy that spawns every decade.

I think as its own thing, it's fine. Not something I'd watch as a kid but harmless as is. But the fact that the creators did it to a well-loved property and did it maliciously looking to make a quick buck really does piss me off.

The fan outcry was definitely autistic and way overboard. That said, I want to make it clear that TTG is truly a repugnant, lazy show that shits all over the legacy of a good property. I've seen kids watch it and like it fine but I can't help but be a little depressed that they barely know about the much better show it spawned from.

I wonder what if Thundercats Roar will be the same, assuming it's so awful it gets immediately cancelled.

Shills can't get enough of "Roar", taking time to state anyone who doesn't care for this sort of style infecting animation are nerds still living in their mommies' basements that are obsessive superfans of the original.

80s Thundercats is no masterpiece, it is and was a kid's cartoon and it was before my time, so I have no special affection for it. HOWEVER, it has art/animation skill involved and was put together by a comic book author/artist who understood visual storytelling, people like Bob Camp worked on it etc. Nobody likes ROAR, it's just people who are still fighting against Gamergate, or doing to "own" the "MAGA chuds" or hoping to get a job with Cartoon Network, one day...somehow.

Thundercats is the only 80s action cartoon I've seen (unless Real Ghostbusters counts) thanks to the Toonami reruns in the late 90s and early 2000s.

I liked it quite a bit, not as much as the anime Toonami aired but it was still pretty rad.

Teen Titans is really weird to me, I don't understand why it ended when it did (it only ran for like what, a year or two?) and I don't understand why they chose to bring it back in the form of Go.

From what I’ve been hearing, people who actually worked on the original have a better opinion of the new show.

There’s a couple of people who worked on the original and are now on this new show (to give you one name: Jim Meskimen).

Wow really, I thought they would have hated it by now.

And say what you want about the 2011 series, but even it had a grasp of what competent art was like, and had some decently animated moments. Roar's just an unsightly eyesore and the fact that people were willing to work on it and claim they were fans of the original, then show their resultant shitpile in the faces of everyone else astounds me to no end.

Meskimen's only voicing a role this incarnation. I doubt anyone on the Roar team even knew he helped with character designs on the original.

They probably see it as taking a piss on the original in a way they probably wanted to do 35 years ago, though that's just my thought on the matter.
It's possible, but is putting it in the hands of a pissant with a manbun really the best way to do it? I mean I'm not a big Robot Chicken fan, but Seth Green poked fun at the original series better than what this is trying to do.

Another defense being used is the "it's just for kids" take. Using "it's for kids" is such a lazy argument and implies we should be giving kids shitty entertainment.

Wow really, I thought they would have hated it by now.

Most people who worked on 80s cartoons don't see them as sacred lore and thus don't really care about the reboots. For example, I doubt anybody who actually worked on the original She-Ra (or even He-Man) thinks the new one's ruining their hard work on the original. For them it was only a paycheck. At times it could be fun, but ultimately it was just a paycheck.

From what I've been hearing, like I said, he likes it anyway.

So, what're the odds of this thing making it past two seasons?

TTG is still going strong, and this show goes out of its way to piss the old fans of, so what would keep this thing alive?

So weird to see people getting upset over a shitty reboot of something that was shitty in the first place and only made to sell toys to kids.

I've never seen the original series or the reboot, and I still think this is garbage.

Just seeing still images of it is bad enough, I can't even imagine how horrible it looks in motion.

In motion... It's basically any Korean-outsourced show these days. Mostly passable, but not great regarding the actual animation and timing. The designs are probably the most off-putting aspect of the visuals, since they tend to go off model for exaggeration. Which is pretty much often.

So here's my question:

Who exactly are these cartoons for? Shows like Thundercats Roar, Teen Titans Go, and the new She-Ra...who is the intended audience?

Its definitely not the old fans because, geez, they told us to fuck off.

If its kids, I feel like kids would probably have more fun with something a bit more action oriented given that the US animation market is flooded with bouncy cutesy dumb shows. When I was a kid, I had a ton of variety: Comedy, Action, Awesome, Cutesy, and everything in between and with a ton of different art styles and presentations. Almost everything today just looks and feels the fucking same.

Is it really just the Tumblr weirdos? Are they the true intended audience for this crap?
Back when I was in college, I used to help assist with a weeb organization, and one of the first things you discover when dealing with groups like this is that the people that jump out the most for people on the outside looking in are the one or two weirdos that make the other few dozen look bad in comparison

The reason I mention this, is that I think its something similar with companies that own these IP and are looking to make money. They don't have the time or energy to really dig down and find what a whole fandom community wants - they're just going to shoot for whatever they think the majority wants, but typically they misconstrue the majority as to being the one or two weirdos.

That and plus, all nostalgia and sentimentality aside, this is a show for a defunct 80's IP. They weren't going to throw in any real money to make a legitimate show. All of this stinks of "cynical cash grab" no matter what the squeaky man-bun creators might say otherwise.

So, what're the odds of this thing making it past two seasons?

TTG came out when this kind of "hyperactive animation for speds" style of show was brand new, so companies had no problem carving out time to plug it on their cable channel. Plus it also came out when the fan outcry was more easily managed to a couple of subreddits. TTG landed in a golden time where it was allowed to fester and grow somewhat, plus outside of how annoying it is, there was still and underlying grasp of who the Teen Titans were as characters, this was just their stretched out zany Looney Tunes version.

TCR however doesn't have any of that. I think (I hope) companies are realizing this kind of hyperactive sped animation is quickly losing appeal, hence why they decided to quietly dump it onto their streaming service with absolutely no fanfare. This limits its circulation and limits any chance to develop. Further, while I haven't seen it myself, from what I understand there isn't even any grasp on the characters they're portraying, just a bunch of annoying characters drawn in an intensely annoying fashion.

tl;dr - very very slim chance.

I'm not watching this. Not only because it's not my style, but because I was told en masse that if I have any bad opinions of it, I'll never work in animation. Can't critique what you don't watch. Can't renew what you don't support either. 🚬

I hope, I VERY MUCH hope that all the industry cogs who fearmongered aspiring artists into never sharing their opinion on crappy media (like this) lest they get blacklisted and never have their creations become movies/shows/games GET FUCKING CHEWED OUT FOR IT NOW.

I know a few who did it and I saw a lot more who did it, so to anyone who archived any of those fuckers' tweets, THROW IT BACK AT THEM. They're sowing seeds of lies that if artists want to be just like those who made Spiderverse, TMNT, Venture Bros, et al they have to sacrifice who they are and praise mediocrity.

They all put "my opinions are my own" in their bios like it's a shield from backlash. It's not. It's REALLY not. And I don't think whoever they work for thinks it's a shield either.

Not saying you can't say it's shit, because it does look like shit and like 99% of kid shows will be shit, just saying it's a manchild thing to get mad over it

I don't get adults watching kid shows, it's really retarded
