We need to be real about TTG hatred on some level--it's a massive middle finger to fans of the original show and it deserves flack for being the heartless shitstorm it is.

No one remembers when the TTG hatred was at its peak and everyone acted like it had killed their dog?

So here's my question:

Who exactly are these cartoons for? Shows like Thundercats Roar, Teen Titans Go, and the new She-Ra...who is the intended audience?

Its definitely not the old fans because, geez, they told us to fuck off.

If its kids, I feel like kids would probably have more fun with something a bit more action oriented given that the US animation market is flooded with bouncy cutesy dumb shows. When I was a kid, I had a ton of variety: Comedy, Action, Awesome, Cutesy, and everything in between and with a ton of different art styles and presentations. Almost everything today just looks and feels the fucking same.

Is it really just the Tumblr weirdos? Are they the true intended audience for this crap?

I think that's the answer while they fool themselves into thinking it's for everyone. But you are right, the 80s and 90s had more variety in genre and art styles. Even some of the bad stuff had its own beat.

Watched the two episodes leaked on the app. It was the unfunniest, most poorly-animated thing I've ever seen. No surprise there. It actually really reminds me of the failed Bubsy cartoon in that it's desperate to get the audience laughing without actually doing anything besides being loud and annoying.

The manbun creator 100000% lied about being a fan of the original show. There's no love in this lackluster juvenile garbage. I don't see it lasting very long.
Tbh I forget the show was still being made. I just assumed it was quietly shut down and it probably for the best it stay forgotten in that app. I might check it out one day though to see how bad it is.

You answered your own question, it's the Tumblr weirdos, the new She-Ra is especially big among them.

I feel bad for actual kids these days, so many of their cartoons are not actually made with them in mind.

And I think it's fine for animation to be made for an adult audience, but why not own that? Why this ostensibly for kids but not really halfway thing?

When I was a kid, I enjoyed shows with plots, character development, action, solid animation, and actual progression. There was tons of shows to choose from--Teen Titans, Justice League, Avatar, Kim Possible, etc. Being challenged with more adult concepts was so much more rewarding than mindless junk.

Kids enjoy complexity in their cartoons and nowadays there's nothing to get behind. That era has ended. Poor kiddos.

Beware the Batman was so good and unique! It got rid of fucking Robin and replaced him with Katana!

BUT it'S A kiD shOW it'S SUpposeD TO BE aBSOlUTELY shaMEleSS WIth HOw DumB it Is!
And they turned Joker into a fucking gorilla and had him sing a stupid song about eating chili with Harley for some reason. It WAS dumb.

Shills can't get enough of "Roar", taking time to state anyone who doesn't care for this sort of style infecting animation are nerds still living in their mommies' basements that are obsessive superfans of the original.

80s Thundercats is no masterpiece, it is and was a kid's cartoon and it was before my time, so I have no special affection for it. HOWEVER, it has art/animation skill involved and was put together by a comic book author/artist who understood visual storytelling, people like Bob Camp worked on it etc. Nobody likes ROAR, it's just people who are still fighting against Gamergate, or doing to "own" the "MAGA chuds" or hoping to get a job with Cartoon Network, one day...somehow.

I don't fucking buy it, I bet he didn't make it 5 minutes.

I was a huge fan of Thundercats as a kid. It was one of the first superhero style shows I got into, and while it is drenched in 80s cheese, it does have moments and images like the ones you highlighted that stick with me and made me want more. I was also a sucker for combining Sword and Sorcery with Science Fiction (one of the reasons I also loved Star Wars and He-Man in my youth) so Thundercats fit my tastes perfectly.

Oddly enough, of all the toy driven 80s cartoons, Thundercats was probably my favorite show of the bunch but also my least favorite toyline of the group by a wide margin. The toys kinda sucked and I didn't really want them, but dang I loved the show.

I also find it strange how a show like TCats that boasted simple morals for kids about bravery and courage can be conflated with toxic masculinity. So the show that gave kids the Code of Thundera (Justice, Truth, Honor, and Loyalty) is seen as toxic? OK.

BTW, I've heard that Roar used some of the classic music from the series, which just makes this even sadder. The music from the original show was high octane, memorable, wonderful, and fit the action/adventure show to perfection, so to have composer Bernard Hoffer's work get put into this crap is just depressing.

They're just going to drive more americans into the eternal embrace of anime.

Come my children, if you want a vision of the future imagine an endless supply of catgirls pouring out of a dimensional rift, each one more sugoi than the last.

Also Lion-O appears in a cameo in Megazone 23. If you have not seen Megazone 23 you should see Megazone 23.

So I just remembered this song...
It's nostalgic for me... Both because I used to watch the *real* Thundercats when I was a kid... and, (also when I was a kid) I used to be vaguely religious.
This song is from a "Christian rock band" called 'Relient K' And I still really like it.

And it's a fuck-ton better than the entirety of the thundercats reboot.
