I used the search function to see if there was already a mention of this game on the forums, literally the only hit I got was an Articles and News thread clearly about something else.

Anyway, Yars Rising is one of the few modern games I've seriously been curious about. It's apparently somehow related to the Atari 2600 game Yars Revenge somehow? Except I'm not sure how?

A lot of the reviews are positive, but... that actually makes me suspicious more than anything.

Kiwis, did any of you play it? Thoughts?

(Also, no offense, but I'd prefer to only hear from people who actually played it, not just people who watched videos and drew knee-jerk conclusions).

Which way western gamer™?

So the funny thing is I was also interested in... I forget its name, but the Pac-Man Metroidvania. However, I noticed only one person reviewed that one and it was negative.

Yars Rising seems to be universally liked. But that just makes me a bit suspicious. Call it contrarianism but when a game is universally praised that tends to make me skeptical.

Does this have anything to do with the character of Tasha Yar from Star Trek?
Nope. It's apparently somehow a prequel? to the Atari 2600 game Yars Revenge.

Which... Yars Revenge was THIS:

Sooo... like... its kinda interesting that some Metroidvania starring some green-haired anime girl is somehow a sequel (prequel?) to it. Apparently there's hacking minigames that are based on the Atari game or something.

A part of me wants to like the idea but it just looks boring. I also forgot it existed.

A concept like that should have made me hyped for it, but here I am, completely forgetting about it until you mentioned it. Bandai Namco fucking suck at advertising. Then again, I can't really expect much from Bandai Namco.
