It's the 80th anniversary of The Railway Series. The Three Railway Engines was published on May 12, 1945.

Happy 80th! I spent the weekend listening to the audiobook versions of The Railway Series and every time I hear these stories I fall in love again. Wilbert Awdry truly was a master world builder. Anyways, besides the pilot episode dropping, here's some other things that happened for the Anniversary:
UnluckyTug uploaded a video on the complete history of Thomas himself:
The Talyllyn Railway hosted "Railway Series Weekend" where their No 3 (Sir Haydyn) was re-painted into Sir Handel (I hope they keep this because it looks excellent)
The TR also announced Awdry Extravaganza 2025 which is happening this July. Duke and Mike are the visiting engines this year along with Sir Handel, Rusty, and Fred. The TR has seriously done more for Fred than the books ever did.
And, imo, the coolest thing announced today was that Accurascale is making an OO gauge model of Wilbert the Forest Engine. Wilbert is a real engine that was named in honor of Rev. Awdry in 1987. He even got his own book written by Awdry's son, Christopher, in 1994. Sadly, the loco has been slowly rusting away in a siding on the Dean Forest Railway since 2016. Accurascale is donating all sales of the model to the Dean Forest so they can cosmetically restore Wilbert and place him on display with signs to tell the story of Awdry and the engine named in his honor. I couldn't think of a better anniversary announcement than that!

There is a YT content creator named Richard Jordan (Skarloey123, Skarloey being the name of a narrow gauge engine in the show) who has been influential in the fan community for 15 or so years, but was recently exposed as being a vile pedophile who likely abused and recorded lewd videos of his own children. Some of his accomplishments include producing videos on YT that have gotten millions of views, founding the Trainz modeling service Sodor Island 3D (Trainz is a train simulator), and creating a popular fan character named Alfred. He was a doctor at Wake Forest University and a father.

IMO, unsurprisingly, the Thomas fandom can get really autistic at times, and merits as much scrutiny as bronies, or even more. Some more petty drama I've identified:
- Kiefer Adams being a pedo (and making bad stories in general); unlike Jordan, he is still active
- WildNorWester getting butthurt over people reusing and modifying Trainz assets from him (and also being accused of being a pedo, though the jury's still out on this one), Jordan's SI3D is mentioned, and was shut down at the time, I think due to Mattel (the owners of the show) copyright striking them... but WildNorWester copyright struck the people who stole from HIM
- ownership controversies over the collection of production models
- something about a "Mason Dey"
- general toxicity over the direction of the show, e.g. the inclusion of female/African characters, or divisiveness over the reboot "All Engines Go"
