This New Trans Anime Is Already Controversial

As the winter 2023 anime season gets underway, Onimai: I am your sister, a comedy anime series, has also garnered interest from those seeking more representation of transgender themes in anime. The series, produced by Studio Bind, is only Studio’s second creation following the success of Mushoku Tensei, but also no compromises are done in animation quality. However, the series is facing backlash on social media for various reasons.

“Onimai: I’m your Sister” follows the story of Mahiro, an Otaku who has spent the past two years as a shut-in, rarely leaving the comfort of his home. His younger sister Mihari, a mad scientist, decides to perform an experiment on him, turning him into a girl. As Mahiro grapples with her new identity, Mihari works to support and guide her, eventually helping her to leave the house and Mahiro starts feeling better about himself.

Onimai: I am Your Sister Already Controversial

Onimai: I am your sister, produced by Studio Bind, faced backlash from some fans upon its release. While the animation quality of the show was not the source of the criticism, it seems that the show simply did not appeal to every anime fan. This was evident in the responses on social media, where some viewers expressed frustration that trans representation in anime seemed to always be sexualized, while others questioned why they couldn’t get the type of representation they wanted.

One netizen took to Twitter to say “omg why can’t trans girl get any type of representation without it being sexualized,” while others wrote “this is not what we meant when we asked for trans representation in anime!” and “this is why I refuse to respect anime fully.” It seems that some fans had expected a coming of age story featuring a trans character, but instead received an ecchi anime with top-notch animation.

Even after watching the trailer and reading synopsis doesn’t give the clear indication of what to expect from the series, which may have contributed to the confusion and disappointment among some viewers.

In conclusion, trans representation in the anime industry has been a topic of debate among fans for a long time now. While some have called for more diverse and nuanced representation of trans characters, others have criticized the way trans characters are portrayed in some shows. It’s important for the industry to continue to listen to the voices and concerns of fans, and to strive for more inclusive and respectful representation of trans characters in anime. At the same time, it’s also important to recognize that not every show will appeal to every fan, and that it’s okay to have different preferences and opinions.

Seems like the tranny demographic has gotten big enough for companies to profit off of. Also lol the product has to anime because trannies won't consume anything else.

Tranime is real

And this goes on to show that more trannies are trooning out because they think life would be easier as girls (kinda true if they were real woman, not a scientific abomination)

Null said this in one of his streams that if a machine existed that could turn a man into a 100% biological cute girl (as depicted in this anime) most troons wouldn't take it, why? Because they hate women and want to make them uncomfortable and if they looked like girls and had all the right bits they couldn't do that.

Incels with extra steps indeed.

Null says a lot of things.

Gender bending isn't new, nor is it trans. Its literally magic transformation.
The concept of sex being changed, going from man to woman and woman to man is actually very ancient. It dates back to Mesopotamia I believe, and you can find it in myths. Sad that this interesting piece of anthropology has been corrupted and subverted by perverted creeps who will never be a woman.

Feh, this stuff honestly looks fairly par for the course by Anime standards.

Anyone who thinks this is new and controversial would probably shit themselves into dehydration if they saw Ranma 1/2. Or gods help them, Futaba-Kun.

While some have called for more diverse and nuanced representation of trans characters,
How about you make your own troon anime?

It's also okay to make your own troon anime instead of whinging that people you're not even paying aren't whipping South Koreans for twelve weeks straight to animate a story about some dude getting castrated so he can wear a dress and probably kill himself out of untreated depression.

"The industry" isn't a person, and the Japanese are the last people in the developed world to care about the tastes of people overseas.

It's been said before, but Japs really don't care about what westerners on twitter have to say.
They are enjoying this show for what it is.

Nah, characters magically changing sex and wacky hijinks ensuing has been a trope in anime for a long time. I guarantee everyone who was an otaku in the 90’s knows of Ranma 1/2 at least, and I’m sure that wasn’t even the first.

What the tranny subculture would go nuts over is a show that regurgitates all the same archetypical experiences they all pretend to have and chase after (dysphoria, getting kicked out of the house, taking hormones, getting surgery) and presents them as noble and brave. Regardless of what they say, it’s not the state of being the opposite sex that most of them are pursuing, it’s the state of being trans.

Ranma wasn't a troon. If I remember correctly he hated being a girl and was deeply embarrassed about it.
Early in the series he was. Later on, he became a straight up THOT and liked it. Same with his dad, Genma began staying as a panda more than a human.

I looked into it, the MC isn't even trans, its a cis guy who got turned into a girl by his sister.
