Before #GamerGate, before Russian trolls stole the 2016 US election, there was #EndFathersDay. It was a Twitter campaign that was supposedly instigated by black feminists on Twitter, but as it turned out, it was actually the same trolls that would later go on to do so much worse.


Shafiqah Hudson was the first person to notice. In an interview with Slate, this actual black feminist started digging into the Twitter profiles of posts with the hashtag #EndFathersDay. It didn't take long for her to discover that they were all fake.

Each account had several red flags. First, they weren't associated with any other social media or online accounts--they had no presence. Second, they all used a form of black vernacular that just seemed so obviously sarcastic that it was hard to miss. It was like someone else was trying to sound African American but they couldn't keep themselves from throwing in at least a hint of contempt.


Unfortunately, the #EndFathersDay campaign worked. It managed to fool mainstream media and news organizations long enough to start making headlines, pinning the blame on such a ridiculous campaign on "black feminists" in order to generate a wave of hate towards them.

Another activist, I’Nasah Crockett, noticed the same thing. She dug even further and found the source of the #EndFathersDay campaign: a 4Chan post that outlined the whole thing. Crockett and Hudson then joined forces with other black feminists to begin the #YourSlipIsShowing campaign that outed many of those accounts, but the damage had already been done.


Worse still, #EndFathersDay was a proof of concept. It proved that a public misinformation campaign could be started with relatively few resources (just a few hundred fake accounts) in order to create real-world mayhem.

That was back in June of 2014. A few months later, GamerGate would hit using the exact same tactics: fake accounts created an online whirlwind of outrage centered around games journalism, while the real 4Chan trolls went after female game developers like Zelda Williams and Zoë Quinn.


Fast-forward to 2016, and Russia would use the same tactics in order to sway an entire election. And it’s been going on ever since.

gamergate was 6 years ago and with how fucking obsessed these journos are over it, I don't think we will stop hearing about it for decades.

This article and the person who wrote it is fucking DUMB!

#EndFathersDay and #GamerGate have ZERO relation to each other aside from the fact that they both involved SJWs doing stupid shit to annoy the fuck out of everyone online. The former was a hashtag created by feminists on Twitter because the crazies there hated men in general, and the latter was a movement to "attempt" to stop gaming journos from doing corrupt shit. You know what else happened around that time? Tumblr decided to "invade" 4chan, but their plan blew up in their face when 4chan followed Tumblr back to their homes and started posting gore and other NSFL stuff there to trigger the fuck out of them. Are people going to relate THAT to GamerGate as well?

Even when they bring up their favorite boogeyman, they fail at making a cohesive point. How do you title your article relating to one topic, but then take a left turn at Albercurcy by talking about something COMPLETELY unrelated? Oh, and blacks most affected, because of course they are.

I think there is a genuine probability this article was written by one of those AI clickbait spamming bots due to how utterly nonsensical and shallow the quoted segment is even for z-list website fodder and how little it ties into the autistically referenced and enforced narratives of the whole "gamergate conspiracy mythos". Its all just so mushy and bland in its wording that I genuinely cant see even the laziest and most talentless journo sped's intern's roomate actually writing this

EDIT: Upon following my gut instinct, I looked around and it seems that the author is seemingly shitting out up to a half dozen of these style of articles per day, and the websites official twitter channel has over 100k followers but next to zero tweet engagement as far as I can see so.....yeah im calling it. This shit is a bot piece written for a fake and gay website that is even more literal clickbait than the stereotypical clickbait sites

The only reason these prank campaigns work is because its targets are genuinely that deranged. For every #EndFathersDay troll, there a thousand absolutely sincere hashtags that are every bit as incredible. It's just pissing into an ocean of piss that is twitter, and it wouldn't work so well if they weren't exactly that horrible already.

They're obsessed about it because they lost. I forgot who said it but Gamergate was the first major online happening that SJWs and Male Feminists overall lost because its most vocal members turned out to be rapists, thieves, and in Quinn's case, murderers. That and the things they pushed to be in video games to make them better were tanking in sales. Gamergate is just another scapegoat to use so butthurt failures can't admit their shit just stinks.

I've long held that belief, GamerGate was the first time the woke journos picked a fight and lost. Or rather, failed to lose less than they were going to anyway, letting "woman gamers" speak at the UN about how being called names over team-chat was the same as rape meant the anti-GG movement was doomed to eat itself over who was the most oppressed and wear out it's welcome by guilting (fuck off spellcheck, I say that's a word!) you to donate and then doing nothing of note.... "problematic" games still came out and the "woke" games just didn't sell, even after all the "conversations" and after Zoe and Co blew their wads on vanity political campaigns and artful internet struggle sessions, the will of the simps to keep sending money ran out.

Even revolutionaries won't back a loser.

They'll never put the flag down, but they will stop lining up behind an incompetent sell-out if given enough time to figure it out.

As I said in the Riot thread.

You can call the Gamergate side spergs, but you have to admit one thing. The fact that (((GAMERGATE))) will live rent free in these peoples heads until the day they die to the point when these people die their last words are going to be about Gamergate is a Victory in and of itself.
 
That article wasn't even about Gamergate. It was about ending Father's Day. Gay and unrealistic.
