Thieves targeting Canada Goose jackets
Bundling up could put you at risk of theft this winter.

WASHINGTON - "It is something I have to think about, just putting my jacket on," American University student Meera Hajarnis said. That’s because she was wearing a Canada Goose jacket, which has become a target for thieves.

"I know [George Washington University], Georgetown, same issue where a lot of people are just stealing these jackets out of locker rooms, classrooms," Hajarnis said.

In at least one instance, they’re stealing them at gunpoint too.

Police said three suspects hopped out of a car, pointed guns, and demanded a victim’s Canada Goose jacket just a few blocks from Dupont Circle on Tuesday night.

It has happened in the area before. Last winter, George Washington University sent out an alert about a string of jacket robberies near the school’s Foggy Bottom campus. At the time, police said they weren’t sure why the thefts were happening, but one thing that is known – the jackets aren’t cheap, with some costing upwards of $1,500.

Canada Goose jacket thefts near GWU campus
Thieves in D.C. are targeting Canada Goose jackets. So much so, George Washington University sent out a campus alert this week telling students to be careful.

Thursday, FOX 5 asked D.C. police if they had any advice.

"AirTags," said Commander Sylvan Altieri. "I’ve seen people use them on tool kits, suitcases, I think that’s probably the best thing you can do as far as if it gets taken, because it’s a nice way to track it."

"It’s a really scary situation, especially over just a jacket," said Hajarnis, but she added, she doesn’t plan on getting a new jacket anytime soon. "I love the jacket. So I’m really happy with it, and I hope it never gets stolen."

In the Tuesday night incident, police said the victim gave up his jacket, and the thieves got away.

In Korea, least at that time we were issued long johns and a parka. Never wore the long johns but certainly wore the parka. One also rode as much on buses and in taxis as possible. That wind came right out of Siberia. Sometimes it felt like the wind was blowing through you, rather than around you.

The winters in Korea were the worst I ever experienced. Winters in Texas were no big deal by comparison, the winters in Maryland tolerable by comparison. Where I live now there is no winter as most know it, just a long spring that segues into a long fall. Things grow here all year long, wear cargo shorts all year long. Hit 70 today, got the door open. Even in the chilliest weather a light jacket/windbreaker is enough.
We still have real winter here in the Chicagoland area, sometimes.
It still gets me by, it just weighs like 10lbs.
I would like to replace it, but the damn thing wears like iron, I've got more than 10 winters on it already...

Edit: It's not even an American made surplus M65, its Alpha Industries one, with a plastic zipper.

Aren't these jackets for like the arctic? That's the only reason I know they exist.
But they all look like generic fast fashion jackets to me: https://www.nordstrom.com/brands/canada-goose--7437

Some of the expedition/tour companies do use them for their guests. I tried one on once, was very warm and would probably work quite well. Of course, DC doesn't get cold enough to justify the price tag. It's also very flashy with a big ass logo. A nice wool coat will work just as well and isn't as flashy.

Meanwhile I get people asking me where I get mine without solicitation and I tell them "amazon"
One of the funniest things about moving to Seattle was witnessing all these hipsters decked out in their North Face jackets asking where I got mine and their sheer horror when I said "I dunno, Kohls I think?"

The real question is, are these jackets being stolen because even Blacks are being convinced that it's hot fashion, I'm sorry, "drip", to look like the retarded Michelin Man, or because they're actually fencing them for cash?

This is going to shock some people but if you go around wearing expensive clothing in the more diverse areas then you will occasionally get robbed.
These places aren't exactly the hood, but you shouldn't be bringing nice things with you to university. If no one else is up to the job, the student body will relieve you of your excess possessions.

You're going to pay a premium for clothing made in North America. That accounts for some of the price. And at first glance, these are quality articles originally intended for serious use. But they're ridiculously overengineered for walking from your Metro stop to your classroom.

Do people in DC not know about Carhartt? Warm as fuck, great for layering, lasts forever, $100.
They fired people for refusing to vax max, were very public and snyde about their hatred of anyone who refused to bend the knee to our illegitimate regime.
Fuck, them right in the ass.
Given the choice between Carhartt and being forced to fuck Liz Dong Gone I'd take the latter.

Feel free to take some dick. I choose functional warmth. If I gave a shit about the political leanings of every company I buy from, I'd probably be naked, hungry, and unshowered.

If you're rich enough to afford to waste $1500 on a piece of clothing why do you care if it gets stolen? Just buy a new one.
