The good thing about this is I found a perfect second word for when my first comes up zilch (which it never has), which lets me use all the ten most common letters in the first two guesses.

I'm using RAISE as the first in the hopes of a hole-in-one because my previous starter, ATONE, already showed up recently, alas, on a day I'd started with RAISE instead. Anyway if RAISE doesn't work, NOTCH takes all the top ten. (Some counts list C as most common.)

I'd be curious to hear other people's go-to words.

I start with QUERY. It knocks out half of the vowel options, and knowing about an ending Y right away can be useful. If that has no hits, I go to THINK. I think it's only been three or four times ever where one of those didn't give me a letter.
 
it still boggles my mind people strategize. i just come up with a new word each time. one day i'll get it right on the first try.

i also do the hard mode tho which doesn't allow for random letters if you get one right.
 
I'm dumb and usually play before bed or when I wake up, so I have negative strategy. That said, luck counts for something.
