Okay, you faggots have to list the best FMs you've played so I can feast during this long, cold winter. I was playing some of the The Dark Mod stuff but the lockpicking mini game drives me insane.

Any that you recommend?
@rusty_von_shackleford (admin of RPGHQ) has put together a collection of archived interviews from Looking Glass Studios and Ion Storm developers.
Huh, didn't know Rusty had a Farms account, shame he's just active on RPGHQ, which has very low active users considering I see the same people constantly.

I think he showed up to yell at the woke games thread after fags tried to make fun of HQ's woke games list.
FTFY.
he showed up because of that EA lolsuit because they were remaking the Sims4 world without fags, dykes and trannies and for some reason EA thought it was a good idea to sue RPGHQ for that.
His site is nice and I like most of its users.
they seem gay but grounded, video timestamp of the point in my message, they get really close to being the same type of annoying retard that endlessly complains about something they hate, thus becoming equally annoying as it.

I remember that happening but for some reason I thought it happened last year. I also remember that EA fucked off but don't remember the leadup to how that came to be. Pretty sure joosh offered to help with the hosting. Makes sense that would have been why he showed up though.

My kind of people, thought I try not to be a retard here like some users who write novels in the Fallout thread can be.

Yeah some people can get...really into it in that thread. Sometimes it's good, but mostly unnecessary. And yeah I also enjoy the RPGHQ folks, again it's a shame the site doesn't have as much activity, but considering what too much popularity can do...blessing in disguise.

Lol what? First I've heard of that. If anything I expected that from the numerous BG3 unfaggify mods.

Took me a second to find the post
Completely off topic back to Thief.

if your phone has a gyro you can turn it into a cheap VR goggles but good luck with the controls.
mine doesn't.

Thief is such a perfect game to be played during winter, something about it makes it feel extra cozy.

Just a few of my picks, I really do need to play more FMs though:

Between These Dark Walls
Endless Rain
The Sound of a Burrick in a Room
Shadow Play (my personal favorite FM)
Heist Society
Twilights Over Driftstone
A Midsummer Night's Heist
Home Sweet Home (mod author sadly died so this is a cliffhanger, was the first of a planned trilogy)

These two channels are also good for seeing what some FMs look like and if they pique your interest:

I think I'll be doing some more FM runs after I finish my classic DOOM replays :)

Pretty much anything by Lady Rowena is really good in my book. The Seven Sisters and Rowena's Curse are iconic fan missions. I'm also fond of the fanmissions by Christine Schneider. She has a tendency to make very vibrant and homey worlds to explore with nice stories.

You can also look here to find more. There's also some links to other Thief dedicated websites on the page too so your nets can be cast far and wide in your search for good content. Go forth and find comfort in Thievery this Winter's Eve, taffer. 💕

Just fired this up last night and I thought I fucked up my copy of Thief because the map runs so poorly. The readme even warns that performance is poor initially probably because you can hear then engine buckling under the weight of the giant castle, but I look forward to trying it when I can swallow my pride and maybe drop the settings down so it's playable, initially at least.

I used T2Fix with the lowest graphical preset which is what I've usually done, and it seemed to play fine. Then I ran T2Fix again to change to highest preset, and it may have been dropping some frames at 720p resolution. But I need a frame counter to tell. I'll figure out how to turn one on and check it later.

I used an Intel quad-core with UHD 630 graphics, not exactly a powerhouse.

Thief 1/2 came out in 1998/2000, and are obviously very easy to run. The NewDark patches raise the engine limits to such extremes, that I think it's plausible that mappers are making FMs that are over 10x harder to run than the OMs. Probably less than 100x. I don't know how to quantify it, but for example, the initial NewDark v1.19 fan patch raises some engine limits by 10-20x:
- Increased the maximum number of visible on-screen terrain polies from 1024 to 20480
- Increased the maximum number of visible on-screen objects from 128 to 1280
GPU most affected 4 sure.

I've noticed an increase in people playing Thief on youtube and twitch. Did something come out with the series recently?

Yeah finished it the other night and it's just the outdoor section(s) at the beginning that it starts chugging hard, otherwise buttery smooth. Really fun little map that if I can be honest, feels a bit lackluster compared to the Black Parade offerings but I'm worried I've been spoiled by those maps. That said, the twist 2/3 in is quite nice with some incredible scripting and other custom content, even if it doesn't quite work and the solution is a big janky.

I also only found 1/4 secrets which upset me tremendously but I typically cannot be bothered austistically examining every nook and cranny unless I've somehow fallen short of the treasure count.

Double posting because thread is slow but I am getting ready to do a write-up of the FMs I've been playing but generally anything made by Skacky is just heads and shoulders above the rest. The over all design, flow, and attention to little details on top of all the small custom work is just... wildly good. My only criticism is that the dude loves his thieve's highway stuff and I find it very overwhelming and forces me to platform on weird ledges and things way more than I'd like, especially when mantling is not as much of a guarantee as it should be.

Wonder if we'll ever get something on the level of Black Parade again.
