I never realized there was a space thread. Pretty cool. I've only read the last couple of pages. As someone that works in the field, I appreciate the enthusiasm. It's at a loss to me as to why more people are not interested in the developments over the last three years, especially considering the level of access that is provided compared to the space race during the Cold war.

For any space nuts in Texas, I would not recommend going to Boca Chica. Yes you can see pad while driving on the public road but there is a wall, there really isn't any parking, and other than seeing Star Hopper, there isn't much that warrants traveling that far. If you wait by the main building, someone will eventually let you into the lobby, but that is as far as you can go.

You even need an escort to hit up the gift shop, and frankly, the online story has better selection.

Massey Island, you aren't going to see really anything but the security gate. Same with McGregor. You can't get close enough.

The Johnson Space Center is a better visit simply because it's setup for tourism. If you go to Bocha Chica, you're going to see the worst maintained port a johns on the planet, lol.

Ive heard wallops Island has some good views if you can catch a launch there. Its easier for most the country to get too as well.

I guess a lot has changed since I drove down there four years ago. It was around the time they were getting ready to stack S20 and B4.

The frustrating thing, for all the work i do for the industry, the closest I have come to actually witnessing a launch was Blue Origin exploding during their wet test. I was in Titusville, packing up from work at a difference part of the facility when that went up.

I was over there back in June not for a launch but where it is the facility will jump out at you when you drive to chincoteague. Besides they launch stuff but it’s rare right now.

I saw a nighttime Falcon 9 launch from Titusville at the Space View park, was pretty sick. Way brighter than I thought it'd be. Great barbeque right around the corner too, little place called the Sugar Shack. Fuck, now I'm hungry. I imagine Blue Origin exploding woulda been quite something to feel, even if you didn't see it directly.

In regards to the major NASA tourist sites my opinion is Kennedy>Huntsville>Johnson, and it's pretty close between Kennedy and Huntsville. The guys that work at Huntsville who actually worked on the Apollo program are great to have a chat with. Johnson is okay, but far inferior to those two imo.
Also shout out to White Sands Missile Range Museum, not the greatest to get to, entirely self guided, annoying to get through base security, but if you're a space autist with a side interest in all things that go boom, it's pretty cool to see.

70's were a cool decade for exploring space you had the end of apollo, the skylab and salyut stations, apollo-soyuz and the voyager probes
Shame the Space Shuttle program shat all over our space progress

The newest Long March 7A rocket fell apart and exploded ~90 seconds after launch lol

CCP QC strikes again.

Do we have footage like that Blue Origin rocket or is it all censored by the CCP?

Yeah with hindsight we should have kept building bigger and better probes and kept sending people to the moon, instead of focusing on doing manned LEO stuff. Which is valuable, but not as valuable as, say, programs to further explore the moon and asteroid belt, and lay the very first foundations of exploiting their natural resources. Getting infrastructure on (and in orbit around) the moon and in the asteroid belt to be off-Earth launching pads and resource gathering and manufacturing sites is gonna be the biggest kick in the pants for making humanity an interplanetary and eventually interstellar species

The problem is convincing people to pay for that instead of free houses for brown people.
