Anybody else a bit disappointed that they changed so much? RE2 was a big let down.

Missing crows, spiders, and the ivy plants meant Capcom got incredibly lazy. Repeated boss battles indicated they just did not care. Nothing much in the B scenario to make it worth your while.

The RE3 remake was garbage. The remake of RE1 feels timeless in comparison. But hopefully the remake of RE4 can redeem their failures over there at Capcom.

2 and 3 REmakes don't top REmake 1 although 2 REmake comes the closest.

Only thing that really bothers me about 2 REmake are the loss of the giant spiders and the expanded sewer section which is tedious, the original game rightfully kept the sewers short.

I don't dislike 3 REmake as much as most people but the loss of the clock tower really is some bullshit, it's by far the worst one and a big missed opportunity.

RE1 remake is still a traditional RE survival horror game, RE2 and 3 remakes are action games with monsters.
I'm in the minority but I love the fixed camera presentation that sort of simulates camera angles in movies, it genuinely felt like you're plying a 90's B-movie with the original trilogy, especially 1 and 2, 3 started getting a bit too silly.

To me, the biggest disappointment is that since RE4, an entire genre of games just disappeared.
Fixed camera angle survival horror is just gone.
Sure, the gameplay might be competent and the presentation might be really good but..... it's just not the same franchise.
As far as I'm concerned, there are no RE games anymore, we have another action IP with zombies now.

The remakes being popular will only cement the fact that the survival horror will never come back.

RE2 was a fun remake.

RE3 suffered from being too much like RE2 remake and not enough like a RE3 remake. I didn't *hate* it but I only played it like twice and would rather just play RE3.

Modern audiences can't stand tank controls and fixed camera. If you think the remakes cemented the "death" of fixed camera you missed the boat 15 years ago.

I don't know where this opinion comes from.
Do we have some sort of study for it?
Fixed camera angles have been going strong, then Capcom changed everything with RE4 and companies stopped making them, not because they weren't selling but because "gaming was moving forward".

It's like Hollywood just decided that 3D animation is the next step of evolution and stopped making 2D movies.
They just stopped, nobody actually asked the public, they just decided that it's what the public wants.
Meanwhile, anime is making all the money and when stuff like Invincible comes out, people love it.

I will believe that nobody wants to play fixed camera tank control games when a few of them actually come out and all of them bomb financially.

RE4 is nearly 20 years old, dude...

I know because literally everyone I know who plays games got pissed when I told them to try RE1 remake and they bitched and moaned about how it controlled like shit. 20 years of not having fixed camera angles and tank controls during the boom of video gaming going mainstream will do that.

I don't like what was removed in 2 but at least it brought the gore, which is why I was there.

When you get to 3Make however, holy fuck... what a rushed cash grab. They even toned down the gore.

RE2 remake was okay, I guess, but it didn't bring it like REmake did back in the day. Just felt like an actionized retelling with less suspense than the original.

I think I liked RE3 remake better than RE2R simply because I don't hold RE3 in as high regard in general. I think a lot of people forget that RE3 felt like an expansion pack sequel when it originally released, something released late in a system's life to tide us over until we could get our grubby little paws on that next gen hotness Code Veronica.

In general, I feel as if the story nowadays is pretty lousy overall, with these zany bosses and the lack of logic. For example, Chris intentionally concealing vital info from Ethan just so you have a "plot" for the remainder of the game. Then the story ends up being so corny. By the time I finished RE8, I was just laughing at how ridiculous it was from the jump.

Why would a family that fought these mould creatures in RE7 be sent to a country to live right NEXT to their source anyway? That's like someone being fattened up for the kill. Oh, Chris. Ya done screwed up.

Now, I know Chris was undercover, trying to learn more about Miranda. But that makes zero sense. If Miranda really did succeeed in killing Rose, it would have been the fault of Chris and his team.

Also, Capcom seems to enjoy copying things from other games, like how you can use a kid's slide in RE6 for fun. But a different game had that in it first. So, I think Capcom just likes to shamelessly rip off whatever is trending. Although they're in good company, as many people do this.

I only played the remake of the first game on Gamecube. It was really good. I'd like to try the others someday when I have access to the right hardware.

I never liked RE3 much. It felt like a repeat of RE3 but with Jill and some different areas. I did think Carlos deserved a blow job after all that though. But when I played through it again a few years ago on PS1 I liked it more than I did originally. Hate that puzzle with the gages though towards the end. I thought the music puzzle in Myst was easier. And I can't even read music. I had to play it by ear. Not the same type of puzzle exactly. But same nonsense with adjusting stuff until you want to punch your TV or monitor into tiny, dust-like fragments.

When Jill gets stricken by cutscene stupidity syndrome and just stands there while Nemesis kills Brad... I thought Jill was better than that. They did it again with the missed turntable scene in Outbreak. If you activate the turntable in the lab to move the train up to the surface but don't go to the room with the turntable until the timer runs out you will get a scene of your character slack jawed like a yokel as the turntable rises up without them. Then a hunter appears. And even if you are armed to the teeth he still knocks you into the huge chasm in the floor left by the turntable's departure.

I know these are scripted events. But you just feel like your characters are retards when stuff like this happens.

I heard a lot of people say they were cash grabs. I'd play them anyway. But I don't reprct them to be done as well as OG REmake.

I disagree that RE2make was an action game. I'm currently replaying RE2 original and if anything there's more action in that. It feels like there's a higher enemy count at least. Though it's hard to say due to how things have been moved around.

I don't think RE2make was a cash grab, 3 almost certainly was. I never played it, but it was likely made in a rush to bundle with their crappy multiplayer focused game.

Yeah, my biggest issue with RE 3 is it feels like they had to fit an RE 3 remake around using RE 2 Remakes assets and such.

The entire ending being in a lab that just looks like the RE2 lab instead of the Dead Factory, and the complete removal of the Clock Tower being prime examples of this.

I also didn't care for the ending revolving around the vaccine so much.

Turning even the classics into more generic types of shooters was a mistake. They seem good for what they are, but that's not what Resident Evil was.

The best remake was indeed RE1, and they should at least remake the series like that one too. Why not appease both types of fans? Selling essentially the same games twice could only be a good thing for them.

RE1 remake's HD remaster sold very well, so it proves people still like the original style, and I'm sure further remakes like that one would do well.

The two rail shooters on the Wii were not amazing, but the retelling parts are actually pretty good. And I prefer them to the official remakes, quite honestly. Although some stuff was just chucked in as a joke, like Ada distracting Mr. X with a lipstick launcher, that she was never seen using in the actual RE2 storyline. So that stuff was pretty meh, and there was things all messed up because they included co-op.

REmake is my favorite video game of all time and blows the original out of the water imo. RE2make is great on its own but just misses the mark in comparison to the original. RE3make is fun for 4 hours of entertainment but really feels like a rushed cash grab compared to RE2make.

I disagree. The REmakes are practically Silent Hill 1 compared to RE 5 and 6. You could also say the original RE2 and 3 are action horror with how much ammo and weapons they throw at you. I’d even say the huge success of RE 7 and 8 prove that people still want survival horror, even if it doesn’t have classic tank controls and fixed cameras.

The original RE2 is an action horror game with copious amounts of ammo so anyone who says that the remake ruined it by making it into a generic shooter is on crack. The only things I miss are the spiders, the differences in the B side, and the longer city section.

Remake 2 was fine. It didn't have a lot of the more B-movie stuff that the series was all about, but it still felt like it wanted to be RE2. Remake 3 was just a lot shorter, the gameplay was worse, and Nemesis looked awful. They fucked up Jill's character somehow and even her corny-ish dialogue from the OG was replaced with something much worse.

I'd argue that Re3 remake was trying to get a more Western audience and was a bit ashamed by it's corny B-Movie origins. The series always had the charm of mid 80's B-Movies, it's why I think they started going to shit at 5 into 6. It started being a blockbuster action movie rather than something that is aware it's dumb, but still tries to be an enjoyable experience. It's a tonal issue to me. RE4 was perfect because how fucking idiotic it was, but Leon is still taking everything in stride.
