The Outer Worlds - Obsidian's new game, like Borderlands meets Fallout: New Vegas

I couldn't even stomach finishing the first game. And I wouldn't play this mess even if they gave me all the money in the world.

Microsoft has been quadrupling down on creating slop for the last 15 years, this is just another piece to add to the pile.

Not because I actually want to bang any of these hideous goblinos but this is already a game destined to sell poorly so why in God's name would you go out of your way to antagonize your audience?
This. People who haven't played the first game think it is bad, people who have think its worse than New Vegas and a disappointment. Whilst Pentiment and Grounded were good, they're a different genre, and the same genre Avowed was terrible in everything but combat. From what I'm seeing, I'm quite positive about TOW2, but many people have already written off the studio. They've got the right leadership, they're not rushing it, and the previews look good. Pushing away potential buyers before they learn this is insane.
edit: Just watched the trailer... "And no you can't sleep with them" is the only spoken line after the start. Insanity!

More then half the party are women and no, you cant fuck any of them (and why would you?). the black guy has a fake leg lol!
To be fair, that was the case for OW1, 3 female characters vs 2 male ones and one robot, altho they planned to have another male character(or a dog like in Fallout, that part is unclear) but they had no time left so instead settled for a reskinned robot with a few generic lines of dialoge. These looks worse in every regard compared to the first game.
Also, the cripple fetish just reminds me of Saints Row 2022 for some reason. This isn't a good thing btw.
The whole smirky "no you can't sleep with any of them" thing really rubs me the wrong way.

Considering how they look, and the quality of writing on display, is that even a bad thing? At least nobody has to ponder how much worse the character interaction will get. Plus, the way romances are handled in games nowdays is legit garbage anyways, so might as well not have it at all. Save that for your VN dating games.
Excuse me, what?
Avowed has no ammo, only a stamina bar(yes, you lose stamina for firing a gun) and a mana bar for spells. That's how it would work if these retards had their way.

It's part of Microsoft's diversity checklist. I'm actually surprised that none of the characters have vitiligo.
They probably do, they just haven't shown off any yet. If that's the case, I will see if there is a way to mod the game to remove them, maybe make everyone white while I am at it.

I wonder if they will finally bring the Native American race into the game. This is cut content from the first one, if you want to check diversity quotas, here you go.

It wasn't so much the removal but Tim, as director, having to ask questions about what they planned to do instead because it was so late in development. I couldn't find the long rant video, but it wouldn't surprise me if he deleted it because he named the person who brought it up. He references it (still sounding slightly salty) in the last section of this video:

Yeah, the guys he got working on the game were absolutely retarded, incompetent and emotionally unstable millennial snowflakes. A ton of work had to be outsourced to get this game out the door thanks to them, just look at the credits and see how many foreign companies you find there. I don't envy Tim, he had a vision but unfortunately the devs he was handed were not up for the job. Frankly, I am surprised the game plays as well as it does when we know just how fucked development behind the scenes was.

Did he have more of a hand in the writing of the DLC? I haven't played Outer Worlds but I've heard that the writing and tone in the DLC is what the main game should've been.

I have no clue, I didn't bother to look at the DLC credits. But yes, DLCs are infinitely better and worth playing just for them alone if you enjoyed New Vegas DLCs. Peril on Gorgon is a horror experience with minimal humor that basically shows us how Big Mountain would look if it was made in Halcyon, and Murder on Eridanos goes back to the humor but takes it easy on trying to criticize capitalism. It's basically a mix of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory and Nuka World DLC from Fallout 4, pretty good in it's own right, but as far as murder mysteries go, well, don't get too excited. It's about as by the numbers as it gets, it does keep you on your toes the first time around tho.

The key word here is "focus", the devs knew what they wanted to do and done it well. The vanilla game was all over the place, and this is why everyone seems to have a different criticism about it, and to an extent, why they are all right. Outer Worlds 2 needs to pick a lane, and the one it has seem to have chosen will be the "quirky reddit game". Not sure how that will work, but I guess we will see when the game launches. It should be noted that while the game seems to be right about to launch, we still don't know the premise, the story, anything like that. We still don't even know if there is going to be jetpacks in the game as seen in the first reveal, likely not otherwise they would have advertised the shit out of that.

I'm expecting it to sell worse than anyone is willing to admit, with an attempt made to have it be astroturfed on Reddit as le anti-capitalism mudskin successor to Concord/Dustborn; with a particular push from white people who don't care enough to buy the game pinning its underperformance on a "boycott" by "trump-voting" whites. But that's all liable to evaporate within the first week of release if enough of those sanctimonious, manbaby influencers are willing to emphasize the anti-capitalist game's desperate attempt(s) at cash-grabbing in their criticism (rather than play it safe by eulogizing another DOA turd as a stunning and brave victim of boycotting by nazis who "won't allow us to have anything different").

Yeah, probably, but anyone who actually pays for this game is a fucking moron. They deserve to be fleeced.
Or, you know, it will be a rental on Game Pass like Avowed was.

Yeah it was just weird when they said that.

If you're trying to sell your game as an RPG and choice driven it's not the win you think it is to say you can't romance people.

I'm not buying this dud nor do I want to fuck any of these characters, they're absolutely hideous.

I just really really dislike this trend in advertising where you smirk and sneer at your audience.

It's so unnecessarily hostile and shitty.

They might be dumb enough to actually cough up the numbers like they did with Avowed. Avowed sold worse than I think anyone expected and they not only admitted it, but were acting like it was still a win. I have no idea why they chose to admit any of that instead of hiding behind the smug opacity goypass provides, like was done with Starfield.

Obsidian didn't mind because they openly declared they only make mediocre games now. This is not a joke, this is the new Obsidian MO straight from the higher ups and I guess Avowed fits that bill perfectly. All OW2 needs to be is not tank worse than Avowed and it will be praised as a huge success.

The director of nuObsidian said that making mid games and not trying to produce something original or memorable will allow his company to exist for the next 50 (?) years.

Feargus Urquhart has been at the helm of Obsidian I think since the Black Isle days. He should know better but he's fat and looks like child predator. Making mid games for cheap and marketing them as such is something you can get away with as a eurojank studio like Piranha Bytes or Spiders but isn't something one can get away with while charging $80 $70 with the name "Obsidian Entertainment" stamped on it. Aim low and suffer. Microsoft would be better off splitting Obsidian up to work on low budget FO or TES spin offs. How many copies did Avowed move? 100k? Maybe not even. This isn't aiming for mid, this is aiming for rock bottom with a complete lack of self awareness at that. "Mid" is a lofty goal for these chuckleheads.
