Yeah but the episode "I married Marge" was set in 1980. I guess it might be a blooper.
They kept either forgetting or tweaking it in the old days. These days they just move it back every decade.

Some of the later "Homer and Marge in the 90s/00s/10s" episodes were just awful. Seriously, having Homer get into a grunge band was one of the cringiest fucking things I ever saw.

I'm honestly surprised shows like The Simpsons and other works that run on a floating timeline don't take a page from the Japanese and just set their works in certain unspecified eras like "199X" or whatever.

Something that has just enough of a timeframe for the setting to work with but is vague enough that you don't have to worry too much about spergy shit like Bart still being ten years old in 2020 despite being born in 1980 or the "That 90's Show" debacle.

Hell, if I were to go full autistic retard and make a Simpsons headcanon timeline, this would be how I do it.

196X - Flashbacks to Homer and Marge's childhood (The Way We Weren't, Mother Simpson, etc.)
197X - Homer and Marge's teen years
198X - I Married Marge and Lisa's Sax for the early 80's, Maggie Makes Three and the Tracey Ullman Shorts for the late 80's
199X - Golden Age (Seasons 1-9) and Silver Age (Seasons 10-12)
200X - "Mediocrity Era" Simpsons (Seasons 13-16)
201X - The Simpsons Movie

Season 18 and the post-movie full-on Zombie Simpsons seasons don't happen and The Simpsons Movie is the series finale.

The Simpsons Movie being set in the early 2010's would actually kind of make sense since there's not that much tying it to the late 2000's aside from Green Day's cameo.

That's why they had Schwarzenegger as the president, since they knew he'd never be POTUS and it would future-proof the movie.

Utah Minister : And how many brides shall you be marrying?
Bart Simpson : Just one.
Utah Minister : What are you, gay?

What did they ever do about Grandpa Simpson in those, is he no longer a WW2 vet?
It'd be funny if they kept pushing forward his war history as well - from WW2 to the Korean War, then Vietnam, then the Gulf War (the real reason for Homer's stupidity), then Afghanistan, then...

If my maths is correct looking at Abe simpson he was in ww2 was in the fighting in the battle of the bulge (1944) and Germany (1945) specifically since secondary resoarces confirm events so cannot be written of as senility he would have been around 20-30 during ww2 northern europe front USA. This at conservitive estimations means he's at around 95 as a ww2 vet but that relies on him on him being around 18-20

More likely looking at him in 1945 he's closer to mid 30's which makes him around 110-20, so it's becoming increasingly odd he's ww2 vet.

EDIT-it also might make sense that Abe was in other wars since he appears to be in and out of work following his war he might have been able to cash in his military experiance when times where hard. Someone in there their's an interesting story about a promising career soldier who had to give up on his ambitions to raise a son after his wife left him and ended up doing a shitty job.

That's a bit too smart for Zombie simpsons though.

Had Futurama continued into 2020, it would likely be a crappy unwatchable show.

The show quit when it was still at least somewhat good.

(I like the lost city of Atlanta episode.)

The Obama birth certificate episode of Futurama which I consider the series worst was already bad. I can't even imagine what Futurama during the era of TDS would have been like.
