It still could've been funny if it was a running gag that Grandpa can't remember exactly what he did during the war, and has picked up a false history stitched together from newsreels and other people's memories (I mostly piece it together from sugar packets) due to dementia.

After he got separated from his platoon parachuting into Düsseldorf, he rode out the war posing as a German cabaret singer.

DAS IST NOT EINE BOOBY!

Yo, does anyone remember reading the Simpsons comics?
like the one where Grandpa becomes a graffiti artist, and the Simpsons working on Krusty's show
I used to have this issue of the short-lived Itchy & Scratchy spinoff series. I'd read it over and over and over. Unfortunately, it was eventually thrown away because a squirrel (or was it a raccoon?) broke into the vacation house where I'd left it and chewed it up.

Other than that, I've barely read any Simpsons comics, let alone remember what's happened in these. The only stories that stand out are two of the Treehouse of Horror ones, with one being a Death Note spoof (illustrated by the magnificent Nina Matsumoto,) and the other featuring bootleg versions of Springfield citizens.

Was the death note parody drawn by and actual death note artist? If it was that's commitment to your work. It'd be like if George Lucas actually directed space balls

nah some half or a yankee, but it was a nice amalgamation of the styles
the bootleg Simpsons thing was pretty funny too

The Simpsons Movie wasn't that bad pretty much just average Simpsons. I would rather watch the movie than any of the new seasons.
OK I know this a necro post but the movie much like the Spongebob movie should have been the series finale. Even if you agree their zombie era started before the movie in the late 90s early 2000s at least a movie would have been the big sendoff that finally ended the whole shebang.

Fair opinion on it, it's a little underwhelming with a lot of the characters underused but I enjoyed how they kinda made Flanders return to his original personality and they did a deconstruction of the show and it's cliches better than the environmental message. Really they should have just dropped the lake Springfield plot and made it about deconstructing the problems with the show by 2007.

Overexposure
Merchandise gone rampant
Lazy writing
Characters becoming shells of their former selves.
Celebrity appearances
And upping the gross and crass humor to compete with south park and family

I mean that's what the game loosely based on the movie, but not really, was about.

I honestly think that The Simpsons Game had a way better story and should've probably been the plot for the movie. That actually did a good job at saying "Fuck, the show's kinda shit, what do we do?" and then poking fun at it.

One of the best scenes from one of my favorite episodes. Otto Mann had the potential to be such a great character after getting his own episode, but sadly he was Flanderized right back to generic stoner trope the moment he expressed any sort of character of his own. A damn shame.

Whang made a video regarding an interesting Easter Egg in Who Shot Mr. Burns? and the fan theories surrounding it.

Apparently the writers originally wanted Barney to be the one who shot him and... Yeah if you pay attention in part 1 he has the most motivation next to moe to do it and it's practically rubbed in our faces that he's itching to do it.

The whole smithers ending which was the only one fully finished was apparently almost made the cannon ending, but with zombie Simpson on the horizon.. Yeah they said fuck it Maggie did it even though the smithers ending still embraced status quo is god.

Fuck who shot Mr burns had a lot of potential but it really should have been a season 3 or 4 episode not fucking 6 going on 7

This is correct: they wanted to have a character who's loss from the lineup wouldn't negatively impact the rest of the series. Obviously if they used a primary character like a member of the Simpsons family, it would destroy the show, whereas if a secondary character like a barfly with no character depth were written out of the show, everything could still progress as is. IIRC if Barney would have been the shooter, the plan was to have him written out temporarily as he would be in prison, and then eventually come back in later seasons.

You know if they had gone that route his suddenly sober attitude in the episode days of wine and doh ses would have made more sense. He comes back after having been denied booze on prison and is trying to stay sober.

But no it happens just because give season 10 some credit it at least tried to shake up the status quo albeit in the most asine ways.
