I think it was DVD commentary that said the key to Homer's personality during the "Golden Years" was making him like a big dog.

Resurrecting this thread with some positivity. What's everyone's favorite episode? Mine's Homer's Triple Bypass. It's hilarious yet sweet. (And I still quote the 555-DOCTORB line to this day.)

That one where Bart and company have to go into Shelbyville to save the Lemon Tree. The episode has so many fucking great jokes that hit the mark that it just always has been my favorite. Objectively not the best, but quite enjoyable.

Last Exit to Springfield has so many genius jokes it never fails to make me laugh. It's the perfect subversion of the straight man vs. comic relief.

You Only Move Twice is a very close second. The part where they just shoot Bond? Genius.

Treehouse of Horror V is in my top ten best but I absolutely love IV. Cape Feare is wonderful too. Pretty much anything from Seasons 2-6 is gold.

Yeah, although my favourite moment will always be Homer in the lift with Mindy, just where he stops it, gets out and slides down the cooling tower. Castellaneta's 'WAAAAAAAAAAH!' doubled with the 'See you tomorrow' will never get old in my opinion, just like 'BARTD'YOUWANNASEEMYNEWCHAINSAWANDHOCKEYMASK'.

Castanella was great back when he cared. That whole "let me have one of those porno magazines, large box of condoms [...]" shtick should be in an acting hall of fame or something.

I think the absolute best episode is Homie The Clown. Every single joke still works and is absolutely fucking hilarious.

"You mean to tell me that you took the money you made from franchising your name and bet it AGAINST the Harlem Globe Trotters?"

"I thought the Generals were due! He's spinning the ball on his finger just take the ball!"

"This place Moe's what is that?"

"(Don't tell him you were at a bar. Think. What else is open late at night?) It was a pornography store. I was buying pornography."

Bart's Comet is one of the funniest pieces of television ever written. It was pretty out there for an old Simpsons episode, but the sheer absurdity of it helped. Plus there are so many funny jokes like the two pilots trying to shoot down the Big Butt Skinner weather balloon that end up destroying their own ships and getting into a fist fight. I especially love their argument ("This is what happens when you take money out of the military and put it in to health care!" "It's a good program, just give it a chance, that's all I ask!")

The PTA Disbands is also wonderful. From the school field trip to Ned Flanders trying to keep everything under control ("God, the PTA has disbanded! Ah, ahhh, ahhhhhh!!" "No! No! The PTA has not disbanded!") to the classic purple monkey dishwasher gag, that episode is pure gold.

"Marge vs. the Monorail", "You Only Move Twice", "Boy Scoutz-n The Hood", "A Fish Called Selma" and "Treehouse of Horror V".

Is this supported by most controlled, accredited studies regarding the Simpsons?

We tried to get word back from the Department of Beyonce Studies as well, but they stopped taking my calls after I made a Kanye West joke. :(

By this point I can accept that Simpsons Criticism has reached the level of a hard science like physics.
