"Lisa is probably the most beloved non-Bart character on the show after Homer." - Moviebob, wrong again.

Even before she was turned into a liberal mouthpiece, I'm pretty sure that she wasn't all that beloved.

She wasn't horrible or anything, but she can't compete with Sideshow Bob, Lionel Hutz, Hank Scorpio, etc.

No, people liked Homer and even tolerated his stupidity way more than Lisa and that was before her transformation into an insufferable liberal mouthpiece for the writers of the much later seasons.

Then again, this was mostly an American thing - compared to the MCs and side characters, Lisa was always usually the least likable, even at her (and by extension, the show's) best, from my past experience with it.

To me, I always thought Lisa of the earlier seasons was at least a bit OK in respect to the others (of course I probably still think of the Lisa of Season One who thought more of the problems in the world than practicing for a recital in school). Certainly Homer stole the show in more ways than one, but it is called "The Simpsons" and they do have to give one of it's family members a place in the sun now and then.

The only people who unironically like Lisa are liberals and pedos.

Seriously though, I agree that Lisa was more of a decent character in early seasons than the later ones.

Lisa was my favorite when I regularly watched the show, which was more than a decade ago.

I kinda liked Lisa in the earlier seasons. She served as a nice foil to Bart and actually acted like... well.. a kid!

Sure, there were moments where she took stances on certain issues but I don't remember her being all that overbearing like she became in later seasons and now.

Even when she was, the show poked fun at it, such as in Hurricane Neddy where Ned calls Lisa "Springfield's answer to a question no one asked." Or in Lisa's Wedding when Hugh lists the qualities they share and it's stuff like being humorless about their vegetarianism and caring too much about the environment.

There's even a Treehouse of Horror bit in season 12 where Lisa frees a dolphin only for the dolphin to come back and enslave the human race.

The worst Lisa's preachiness ever got was in "The Cartridge Family" where she blurted out that garbage argument about how the Second Amendment is obsolete because it was written about muskets.

However, I think the writers redeemed themselves for that when later in the episode the NRA members disowned Homer for being so irresponsible with his gun.

Of course even the first Treehouse of Horror joked on Lisa overthinking things by having ruined the aliens' plans to bring The Simpsons to their home planet on the assumption they were going to be consumed after being fatten up aboard the ship. Of course that was more Twilight Zone twist ending if anything.
