to you guys who was the character that went through the worst changes.

i know folks dislike Skinner, but i thought apu's change was the most annoying.

Lisa by far she went from a slightly less anti social and more socially conscious version of Bart to an even more annoying and smug leftist mouthpiece than Brian Griffin.

Or Homer's transformation from slightly dim witted every man to either retard or sociopath depending on the episode.

At least Family Guy is somewhat aware that Brian is a smug leftist, like that one bit where Quagmire reveals why he hates him, which is much more than can be said for The Simpsons where they entirely side with Lisa.

Family Guy is at least self-aware of what it’s become. Not so much with the Simpsons.

Lisa, probably. I miss when the show was willing to make fun of her know-it-all tendencies.

Lisa and Homer definitely suffered the most in terms of likabity when the Simpsons as a whole became the zombie it continues to shamble onward as today.
It's such a noticable slide.

EDIT: Of course I still think the best Lisa episodes I liked were Moaning Lisa, Lisa's Substitute, Lisa's Pony and Summer of 4ft. 2.

Lisa the Vegetarian wasn't a bad episode, but it was really the start of "Lisa gets into liberal-friendly trends to piss off her conservative family" that's been played to death in later episodes. Her buddhism episode is basically the same thing, only with religion instead of food.

Lisa's Wedding is a classic too.

When will the Simpsons end? Groening stated something about Marge revealing she has bunny ears underneath her beehive hair at the finale.

I remember hearing somewhere that was going to be done if the show was getting cancelled super early like in the first season or so, they were going to throw together a bizarre over-the-top finale with Marge revealed as a rabbit from Groening's Life in Hell comic, among other things. Not sure how that would work 20+ years later. Does anyone even remember Life in Hell now?

Marge actually WAS a rabbit in the 1991 Simpsons arcade game though. I used to play it a lot as a kid and always wondered what was up with that...

I thought it was just the Life in Hell reference, I didn't realize it was a reference to a specific Life in Hell reference.

I'd like to see them do the rabbit thing anyway. That would be the greatest long-game fan trolling since the St. Elsewhere finale. For anyone who hasn't heard of that:
Literally autism. A 6-season, 137-episode medical drama was revealed in the last 5 minutes to have taken place entirely in the mind of an autistic boy staring into his snowglobe. Absolutely nothing was real. None of the preceding 137 hours had ever happened.

Pissed lots of people off. Since the show was treated as totally real and had many crossovers with other shows and characters, people came up with an interesting theory on just how much of entertainment is, in fact, just some autist's dream.

It's pretty much ALL of television.

I'd love to see the Simpsons end in the most bizarre way possible. I can't help but think they'll just play it safe somehow, but maybe we'll be surprised.

I could see them get close to something like that. Go from the credits of the final episode to the Tracy Ullman-style Simpsons sitting on the couch, watching the episode. Tracy Ullman Homer makes a comment on how there's nothing good on or how it's a terrible show or waste of time, fade to black.

The issue with The Simpsons is that it's routinely bizarre, the best response you could give is "meh". St. Elsewhere was otherwise realistic so that ending was wild.

I mean, face-wise Marge is identical to Sheila
I think her name is "Sheba".

Noticed Wiki has an early Life in Hell comic/cover of sorts Matt did in '78. Pretty telling how far we've come.

EDIT: I'm sure I brought it up before, but there is a BBC doc. on Matt's life that's worth checking out if you didn't already.
