The problem I have with his take is that he seems to forget that unlike most critiques of the show, the Apu controversy is the most
politicized and is very much related to the greater zeitgeist of modern day racial politics and political polarization. I understand that he is saying it from the lens of a Simpsons fan and not a political commentator but I feel like it's more than just taking things personally.
 
that list of corrections in Rock Bottom in list format:

  • "Peoples' Choice Award" is America's greatest honor.
  • Styrofoam is not made from kittens.
  • The U.F.O. was a paper plate.
  • The nerds on the internet are not geeks.
  • The word "cheese" is not funny in and of itself.

  • Cats do not eventually turn into dogs.
  • Bullets do not bounce off of fat guys.
  • Recycling does not deplete the ozone.
  • Everything is 10% fruit juice.
  • The flesh eating virus does not hide in ice cream.
  • Janet Reno is evil.
  • V8 juice is not 1/8 gasoline.
  • Ted Koppel is a robot.
  • Women aren't from Venus and men aren't from Mars.
  • Fleiss does floss.
  • Quayle is familiar with common bathroom procedures.
  • Bart is bad to the bone.
  • Godfry Jones' wife is cheating on him.
  • The Beatles haven't reunited to enter kick boxing competitions.
  • The "Bug" on your TV screen can see into your home.
  • Everyone on TV is better than you.
  • The people who are writing this have no life.

Which goes to show that the criticism of him comes from people who’ve never watched the show. Apu went from a one-off joke to being a business owner, accomplished computer scientist, and dedicated (if overwhelmed) father. All of this during an era where The Simpsons was still watchable at worst. Compared to other (white!) ethnic joke characters who never evolved beyond that until after the show lost all its heart and talent.

yeah he was basically one of the only people in town who wasn't a total idiot, just a bit crooked and horny

So the Simpsons had a new episode where Marge is the main focus. Let that sink in for a minute. I haven't seen it let. One of the lucky few. But judging from these images available it's an episode where Marge, despite being a broken down housewife, is somehow an Amazon who'll kick your ass without breaking a sweat.

For anyone wondering, next Sunday is another Marge themed episode. This time she's a cook for a ghost kitchen. Wonderful.

Such a fucking waste of Genndy Tartakovsky art. Also I doubt they'd actually bite into celebrities with Ghost Kitchens.

I just watched the episode. those scenes are just to portray the conflict between Marge and Luann as the main theme of the epissode is primordal instincts and urges. That doesnt stoop the episode from being shoddy though as it's full of familily guy style cutaways, filler scenes and creating plot points it doesn't visit again.
