Did any of you guys ever watch The Tracy Ulman show? Because that show has completely disappeared from the public consciousness, now only a footnote in The Simpsons' story.

If I ever saw it, I have no memory of it. I remember seeing ads for it on FOX and Tracy was swinging on a rope or something and thought it looked dumb. I had no idea about The Simpsons shorts. I only first encountered the characters in Butterfinger commercials.

Then the Christmas Special was a huge hit and soon the main series started, There was no need to watch Tracy Ulman now.

Was the show any good? I'm wondering why no DVDs or streaming ever happened for the show or the shorts.

Tracy Ulmann show is lost media at this point; the last time I looked there are like 3-4 complete episodes on YT and a rare few random clips. Music rights and Ulmann pissing off Fox suing to get a cut of the Simpsons pie have led to it being lost to the ages.

As for it's quality, it's so-so; Ulmanns HBO stuff is better though TTUS is more like the late 2010s Tracy Ulmann's Show than Tracy Takes On....

Super Eyepatch Wolf got a lot of attention for his Youtube Essay on how The Simpsons writing style was done and that is a good video that delves into how well structured the golden age seasons were. Now he's followed it up with total trash, I suspect he just made up a "Hot Take" because by his own admission it's a good clickbait title that he lifted from some blog.

Like his greatest praise is that they did a Treehouse of Horror segment parodying Westworld, and yeah it doesn't seem like a bad skit but blowing your load like it's comedy genius is so fucking lame. "OH MY GOD IT'S META COMMENTARY ON HOW US FANS CAN'T LET THE SHOW LIVE PAST ITS SHADOW" Uh who cares dipshit?

And then the worst take of all, he basically polishes & repackages Moviebob's "Simpsons is just as good as it always was you just grew up" argument which is one of the stupidest opinions I've ever read. "OI! IF YOU LOOK BACK AT A CHEETOS FINGER STAINED USENET NERD FROM THE 90S YOU'LL SEE THEM SHITTING ON SEASON 6! THAT MEANS SEASON 6 IS NOT THAT GREAT!" Shut the fuck up. There's always going to be some weird faggot who doesn't either appreciate something or is a total asshole who shits on something good. Yes Season 6 is fucking good, and Eyepatch Wolf is correct it's ridiculous to expect a show to ever stay as good as Golden Age Simpsons was, a point I've made repeatedly in this thread.

But this disgusting need to CONSOOM is laughable. Now to this Irish fuck I can't fault him for still nerding out about The Simpsons, he makes money off of it. Being a total 30 year old manchild and watching mediocre Simpsons and Soap Operas for Deeply Closeted Gay Men (Pro Wrestling) is his career. But if you're a Simpsons fan and you hate shitty episodes well DON'T WATCH IT. We have decades of television & film cheaply available for everyone to enjoy. We have CENTURIES of great literature to read. I haven't actually watched a new Episode of The Simpsons since "Holidays of Future Passed." an episode I think was actually quite okay and they've confirmed was a potential series finale. That came out more than a decade ago. If I moved on everyone can move on. Or watch the new episodes it's your damn life. But don't fall into Stockholm's Syndrome.

And to make a long rant even more spergish THIS FUCKING RETARD DOESN'T EVEN GET WHAT MAKES THE GENTLE BEN SCENE SO GOOD.
"Ben" is a commentary on the utterly vapid daytime talk show format in America (and I'm guessing is all over the world). They're not actually informing the viewers or being insightful, they don't even talk about the controversy of Homer Simpson being an alleged sexual pest. The one woman says "We need less Homer Simpsons and more money for Public Schools!" as if those two things are remotely related. That social commentary still applies today when you have shit content like "The View" where it's 5 Moronic Post-Menopausal Women screaming banal comments at each other pretending they're making any remotely intelligent points.

I saw a recent episode of the simpsons and it sucked ass. this push by SEW, LS Mark and RealJims is so transparently false. Shitting on your fanbase that no longer watches the show is not proof youve made a comeback. Theyve been doing this for years. Krusty tries to kill Homer with his Tesla, anyone?

Makes you wonder what's going on behind the scenes. Because the time to have reached out to shills for the new seasons would have been around the term of the Disney merger. But they decided to wait until now to start applying their usual MCU/Pixar promotional strategies on The Simpsons. Maybe they always had plans? Maybe COVID temporarily stopped these plans? Disney is getting desperate and want even 10% of the die hards to come back? Some sort of corporate experiment? We won't know until the NDA's run out or shit gets leaked.

My insane hypothesis is that Disney has become desperate and perhaps Simpsons merch and re-runs aren't turning the profit they used to?

What if the shills aren’t being paid at all but the snobby “I know you are but what am I?” humour resonates with them because they themselves have a bad relationship with audiences and the algorithm?

I think the show might be better than it was a decade ago. That doesn't make it good though. The voices seem to be getting worse. Marge's voice as been getting bad for years now and Mr. Burns sounds like he badly needs a drink of water. It will only get worse from here. If they are going to continue the show either get younger voice actors or replace with AI. Honestly even AI could do a better Marge or Mr. Burns voice now.

From what I understand of how the AI can be used, they don't even need to replace Kavner or Shearer. Just feed their performances into the computer and the computer can make it sound like their young selves again.

It's interesting because It's not like as if Supereyepatchwold, LS Mark or Therealjims 180'd their positions. They still notice a decline over the years and still have a heavy liking for the early seasons. There is a reason why they use words like "again" and "improved."
It is true, however, that Supereyepatchwolf andf The realJims seem to follow this new trend of deconstructing the golden agae based on old reviwew scores whoch i strange because Deadhomersociety, the exact site that Supershyepatchwolf refferences in all 3 of his simpsons videos, has debunked this point multipl;e times such as here:
Another point as to people defending the recent seasons now may also be the fact that they are ideologically aligned with the proggresive liberal messaging. To the them the more in your face messaging and buying into the current woke strands of liberalism don't matter so it doesn't affect their viewings of it. Yes LSMark may have disliked Hardly Kirkin for example but its because he thought it was too in your face, not because of how it strawmans the opposition or misunderstands the issue in hand. Meanwhile Supereyepatchwold doesnt like No Good Read Goes Unpunished and Bart vs Itchy and Scratchy because its not character driven enough. Itf it took a more right wing or conservatove turn, chances are they would still be saying it sucks.
As for the Supereyepatchwolf video itself, I do have a few criticsms. First and very minor is how in the beginning he confuses No Homers Club weith DeadHomerSociety claiming that DeadHomerSociety like the newer episodes when they havent been active in years and the article he refferences clearly staing No Homers Club.
A bigger issue is how he makes it as if what other people thnk about season 6 discredits how he sees season 6. Maybe its just how he framed it but its soun d like as if he is discrediting his own opinions on the earlier seasons as false as if there is no such thing as subjectitivity, Even TheRealJims brings up subjectivity.
Evenmore his take on change whole seems all innocent as its about a TV show, it is quite subversive as the idea of "accepting change" and liking how thing currently are regardles of how it was is a very common way of making people accept proggressive causes and the breakdown of tradition and the people that made the society what it is.
It also ignores the fact that supereyepatchwoldf acknowledges is that everythinng including The Simpsons itself is a product of the people, time and place that made it. If The Simpsons deviates from what made it what it was, its not The Simpsons.
Part of his perspective is really a spin on the false fraiming of the decline as being uncreative and stale, which is why the most praised zombie episodes are usually the gimmick episodes. The issue is it doesnt take into account the other aspects of the decline such as writing, characters and satire.
It is also weird how Superyeyepatchwolf completely forgets about the points he made in his earlier videos . He will complain about the gag count and not even mentiond the multiple jokes at once thing he talked about in his first videos or the 3 cores, one dimemnsional characters and comedy asn well as obssesion with popular cultuire and celebrities. Instead hae basically just comes up with new criticsm that has nothing to do with hios previsous video probably because the previous videos emphasized how it betrayed what it once was and now he wants to make it like as if that chage is good.
It makes the video feel disconnecteed and unrelated to his previous videos and makess the points he made in his first one pointless and irrelevant with only thing that he brings up from that one is an update to the grapth as well as the occaisonal idea that newer episode rely on zanyness.
Even wierder is how he treats it like he never updated it with seasons 27 and over completely forgetting the one he did in his second video.
Its not the worst viideo and there has been worst takes such as that JJ MCcallogh claiming that seasons 1 to 6 is wierd and everything after is good, J.J. Mccallough and Johnny 2 Cellos creating the strawman that thiose who crticisize it dont watch it asn Simpsons Theory also defending modern simpsons as a whole.

Watched Bonnie & Clyde on TCM today.
Now that's you do a reference. Joke works with or without knowing the source material.

the thing i always hate about this is a lot of people like myself ARE open to accepting change and have for years. i would accept if simpsons was good and changed. however there's this quote i always think of from stephen merchant: "we are accepting of new ideas that are intelligent, not this utter drivel"
