I thought this was fan made at first. That it was Dark Simpsons or something like it. But no. This is real. The unfunny nature confirms it.

It just kind of personally offended me in a way. It's another attempt by the powers that be to twist and alter the classic seasons and moments that we love and insert their bullshit. I get why they chose the Xmas episode because it was the first one aired but it's a classic episode and still a great Xmas special. Why not choose a more mundane episode without any specialness attached like the one where Bart decapitated the Jedediah Springfield statue? And allow me to answer my own question: it was done out of memberberries and spite.

The other bit from that episode that was already posted was a bit better (not funnier, but I like them throwing out the entirety of zombie Simpsons):

So umm….they gonna stick with this?

The context on those: the framing device is that hackers have stolen a bunch of embarrassing deleted scenes from Simpsons episodes and are releasing them until a ransom is paid, or something. An actual worst-of clip show would have been better, since stuff like Maude dying and Homer getting raped by a panda are worse than any of the gags they made up.

The current state of the show is like a tame CY reboot of classic Simpsons. They don't do stuff like elf jockeys and panda rape anymore. It's not shocking enough for outrage, just really lame.

At least the shocking stuff is actually memorable

Well I guess I won't count to see Homer having his revenge of that panda and it's doubtful they'll do another stunt where Skinner was an impostor and his real name was Armin Tazmarian.

Feels real lazy that they didn't have Dan use his original Homer voice aka an impression of Walter Matthau. I'm sure he can still do that voice. He's not like Julie Kavner and her apparent 4 packs a day smoker diet.

Could have easily made a meta joke that the world is going to get whacked and Homer will become far more stupid as time progresses.

Of course they gotta throw in an "Orange Man Bad" "joke" in there.

(Seems they forgot Trump wasn't seen as "Super Hitler" in 1989...)
tbf the idea of Real Estate Pop Culture Rich Guy as President would still be a thing to go "bruh" at back then

So The Simpsons is now cannibalizing zombie Family Guy, huh?

Huh, neat.

And didn't Trump hang more with the Democrat crowd (The Clintons and so on?) by that time? Guess i never knew Lisa was such a staunch Republican by that time.

by the mid Eighties he was a living punchline for rich bastards

watching Treehouse of Horror 23
the joke about Pope Homer invoking the name of Jeebus legit made me laugh

They would cut so much from the episodes when it reached syndication. One joke that syndication cut was Bart giving "Handsome Pete" a quarter and then the Sea Captain lamenting that he'll be dancing for hours.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=El127tjtPycAs a child I'd see this episode and would always be puzzled as to why this silly joke was cut. At one point I thought I dreamt it up as I didn't know Syndication altered the episodes! So happy when I finally got the DVDs as a kid to see it again.

The absurdity that Handsome Pete will keep doing his jig despite Bart running off just makes me laugh.

Bonus: Lisa and Bart discovering Krusty via the "Do Not Accept Checks" list reminded me one of my favorite sign gags.

If I bother to ever change my username Homer J Fong is in the running.
Homer J. Fong is as much of a classic Simpsons name gag as Nguyen van Phuoc and "Uh, that's our chef... Christopher.", modern Simpsons writers couldn't come up with simple gags like this if their life depended on it.

Speaking of "Christopher", "The Twisted World of Marge Simpson" has to be my all-time favourite Marge-centric episode, especially the first half is a constant barrage of excellent lines and gags.
I recently had the displeasure of listening to the current german dub, the absolute state of it, i swear... i remember when they at least tried to put some effort in it, though that must've been 25 years or more ago by now.

Edit: Okay, just bit the bullet and started watching the THOH episode, the first new Simpsons episode i'm watching in at least 10 years. First thought was "Holy shit, the animation is even worse now", second thought was "Julie Kavner sounds like she's dying from stage 4 throat cancer". I'm only somewhat interested in the animu bit.

The Death Note bit was surprisingly well animated, and while i loathe that style it had some objectivly good character designs. Good colours, too. I assume this was outsourced to an actual japanese studio. Shearer's voice also turned to shit, that Mr.Burns was a pale shadow compared to his prime.

I really can't blame them. Months ago I posted my own review in this thread on John Ortved's "The Simpsons: An Uncensored, Unauthorized History" and while it could have been a better book it did go into detail of how the classic seasons were so amazing. Just one damn random scene can blow my mind in how clever it is.
This could be a viewer's first time watching The Simpsons and you get everything there's to know about Martin Prince. He's essentially the lamest nerd possible dreaming himself as the master of Latin Conjugations. They even sneak in a Dungeons & Dragons reference to further cement how nerdy Martin is, which is appropriate as charisma is a Latin word (borrowed from Greek) and Martin of course has no charisma. And all this serves to deliver Willy's terrifying line "Moris. You die" along with the clever live tongue/dead tongue joke.

This wasn't all made by one writer, the 90s Simpsons one writer (or a duo) would make a first draft and then the writers room would just sit together and spend hours upon hours tweaking that script. Not a single second is wasted, it's utterly perfect.

Since you mentioned dubs I always wondered how the dubs address the Ethnic Parodies? What does Groundskeeper Willy sound like in German? When the Germans buy the Springfield Power Plant how do they convey the cultural divide?

The Germans want to buy The Cleveland Browns, foreshadowing that they don't know what the hell they're doing in terms of financially wise acquisitions. Does the German dub change it to make a soccer joke or do they keep it the same despite Germans likely not caring about American Football.

IIRC the germans stay germans in that episode and black-haired german has an exaggerated East Berlin accent. Football team stays a football team, they did not really change the more hard to get cultural references/differences. The only big change i can think of right now is that Uter got turned swiss. I read that the french version was far more liberal with changing jokes and pop culture references in their version of The Simpsons.

The german version had some translation blunders from time to time, like when Marge reads out "Searing Gas Pain Land" in "Itchy&Scratchyland" they translated it as the gas you put in a car. Or in one of the newer episodes, the one with the Jared Fogel cameo, Jared says he's Jared from the literal subway commercial instead of the Subway's franchise, probably stemming from the fact that Subway's was and is not widely available in Germoney.

Oh, and Willy sounds pretty much like a normal person, i guess the german dubbers didn't get that he has a scottish accent. He speaks with a sardinian accent in the italian dub, which i think is a nice and fitting touch.
Not a single second is wasted, it's utterly perfect.
That's what made Golden Age Simpsons so great, virtually every episode was like that, just no wasted time. The only show that had that same high level of constant funny was, unsurprisingly, Futurama in its first seasons.

Edit: Oh wait, i remembered one big pop culture change they made: In "Two Dozen and One Greyhounds" they changed "Rory Calhoun" to "Boris Becker", no one in Germany would know who Calhoun is. There's another translation error or more like an untranslateable line in the episode where Bart says "But he never wants to play anymore since his bitch moved in" the "bitch" got translated into something like "floozy".
There probably are a lot more changes than i initially assumed and now forgot, so disregard what i wrote earlier.

Lisa was unironically fairly conservative in the first seasons.

They had a group of writers sit down for hours debating and rewriting scripts to Kubrick levels of autism. AND they were all more like a group of friends than coworkers.

I doubt the writes nowadays have even seen each other.
