At this point, they should just reset the story or have a new starting point and ignore the past seasons. Are they gonna after in maggie makes 3 or Lisa's first words next?

What if they pulled a Rugrats and only made new episodes take place in "the future" of the present, when Bart and Lisa are adults and Homer and Marge are old people? Doesn't matter to me though, as I prefer the 20th century episodes anyway.

It really is like the 21st century Simpsons is a different show.
