There's no lack of indie games made solely for shock value like "Super Columbine Massacre RPG", and everybody knows about the likes of "Manhunt" and "Hatred", even infamous but lesser known games like "Rapelay" and "Custer's Revenge", but do you know about obscure filth like Enix's "Mari-chan's Close Call" and "Lolita Syndrome", where kids are brutally murdered and sexualized? I'm sure Square-Enix hopes you don't, there probably won't be an "HD-2D" remake of those any time soon...

I was watching this video titled "The most disturbing & illegal video game iceberg", and there were a few that stood out to me because of not only how vile the content was but that they were commercially released, some even by notable companies like the aforementioned Enix, which was interesting. So, I figured I'd make a thread about the subject.

Here's the video I mentioned:

Limbo of the Lost is a weird and barely comprehensible schizo mashup of stolen assets from various early 2000s games that makes you wonder how the fuck it ever got away with a commercial release. Not brutal, possibly illegal, definitely bizarre.

lol, Harvester was an excellent game. definitely one of the unfortunately lesser-known gems of the old FMV adventure genre

sweet, thanks for the recommendations

I immediately went out and bought it after seeing it in this video. 3 bucks. Don't mind if I do.

This was a good video. 177 was especially disturbing considering who published it.

Don't you have to go out of your way to find some of those? I always see these "disturbing (fill in the blank) iceberg" videos on YT and kept on thinking they were clickbait. I thought it'd be stuff like Rumble Roses and The Guy Game.

Chiller was a bootleg NES light gun game that had tons of gore and violence, a rarity for the time (especially on the NES)

Full disclosure, I have Splatter School installed already.

Looks like Lover Boy didn't make the cut. Sort of like Pac-Man, except you're a fedora-wearing rapist

>Demonophobia
Surprised he didn't bother to bring up the unfinished spiritual successor called Xenophobia.
It's just as weird and odd as Demonophobia.

But on the note of gorey games, House of Velez has caught my eye for some time, mainly in part of the 90s-esq CGI environment and the gnarly death scenes I saw

What gets me about these videos is how they always feel like they're trying really hard to come off as "I don't like this stuff and you shouldn't either!"

It's especially noticable whenever they talk about games involving rape or loli themes and they heavily overplay how gross and disturbing it is. And the whole time I'm just like "Dude, you're not fooling anyone."

JFK Reloaded is probably worth a mention. It's not particularly degenerate even by the standards of 2004, but it was fairly controversial at the time of release, merely for the fact that you essentially play as Lee Harvey Oswald and are scored based on how accurately you recreate the assassination of the former U.S. President. It also released on the same day that Kennedy was assassinated, so it's clearly obvious that it was going for shock value as a form of free marketing. I think that most people have forgotten about it because there isn't much to the game. All you can do is replay the same short segment and go for a higher score.

Here's an old YouTube video of someone showing off the game if you're unfamiliar with it.

Harvester was mentioned several times in PC gaming magazines when it came out, although the whole FMV adventure genre was pretty maligned as a whole. There were a lot of weird quasi snuff film ones coming out of Eastern Europe too.

It was based after the arcade game which was even gorier.

It was made by an obscure arcade company called Exidy, which also made "Death Race" (a game where you run over stick figures but still controversial at the time) and also the importer of Nintendo's Sheriff (why they went with a relatively obscure company instead of something more famous like Midway/Bally or Atari is unknown).
