As for XLibre, that was a dumpster fire from the start. If you didn't see Enrico Weigelt as a schizo retard after the XOR "incident" or his constant regressions with AI slop, you should really read https://forum.artixlinux.org/index.php/topic,10283.0.html (the XLibre retards start posting en masse at around page 3). Imagine being so shitty and retarded to drive away the only distro willing to ship your slopware as default. Just because freedesktop is full of faggots forcefully pushing for gayland, doesn't mean they weren't right about Enrico boy.

all that progress flushed down the fucking toilet. God fucking damn it.

To be fair, XLibre has built up a bigger maintainer team than just Metux and Claude, but even then, most of it is barely audited slop. There are regressions for NVIDIA cards all the time, Randr keeps breaking, and xnamespaces has still not been made to work despite them selling it as the big answer to the Waytranny isolation question. At this point we're between a rock and a hard place in terms of Xorg vs Wayland. XLibre kinda sorta works, Xorg absolutely works and is going to work for a long time coming, Wayland works but nearly all of its compositors are extremely churn-heavy. Hyprland is churn city, wlroots is churny churn churn, and the wayland.fyi neuswc comps are way too young and way too hacky to really be a good replacement. Ironically enough Sway is probably the most stable one out there since it is maintained by the same people as wlroots so you never really get turbocancer despite it being Drew "Lolicon/Pedophine" De Vault-ware.

Both Artix and XLibre are retard driven projects, the former lost a maintainer over the latter's faggotry that could have been gatekept from the forum from the start and rightfully so had they had the spine to put up with bad actors, and the latter doesn't take the trash out so transparency and competency are put above all superficial politics. I forget which page back but apparently Artix Linux devs aren't very open to feedback and will ban you from their chats, so much for le hecking based nosystemd.

And yes, if it was an option, I would have long stopped using SlopWrt. Unfortunately, most devices I get from donations and repurpose them for multiple networks are either going to end with OpenWrt or the trash bin. I am going with the former, but if this fucking project doesn't get its shit together, the trash bin will be saving a lot of time and headaches in the future.
It arguably won't be long before the trash bin becomes the more secure option too :(

Politics aside the moment a project stops accepting patches for arbitrary reasons (i.e. "trust issues?" What kind of retarded horseshit is that?) it becomes a major security threat, since vulnerabilities in even venerated/highly-vetted software are found periodically that need addressing, and if you can't trust that a project will accept patches for flaws because they fling "trust" around as an excuse, you can't trust them either.

Like, okay, neat, you don't "trust" whatever dude sends in a fix for a critical CVE in your cute little troon-themed variant of some core daemon. So if the fix is still correct, but you reject it because he misgendered you, what happens when some other supplicant submits the same fix with adequate troon cocksucking in the pull request? Will you still reject it because you think "it still came from that transphobe" or some gay shit? Does code hate your pronouns too?

Makes me think of that "well hey I might be a pedophile but at least I'm not rude!" meme. They'd rather be politically correct than mechanically safe, and that produces insecure devices with unfixed vulnerabilities (often with working known exploits in the wild).

I continue to adore the fact that my web browser (Brave) puts red squiggles (i.e. spell check flag) underneath "misgendered" and "transphobe." Based as fuck, Brave, good fucking job. That's default behavior; I didn't delete them from the default dictionary.

every single project where you can tell the developers' politics, is trash
Uhh, Stallman-lovers? I think Stallman is a bit, uhh, how would you say this.. libertarian..?

Also, something funny:

Apologies for not properly explaining the "trust issues" bit. This is related to adding new maintainers to the project, it's not about rejecting random PRs. They have been using the Jia Tang excuse (from the xz backdoor incident) to shoot down criticism on how the project is managed, that and the usual "this is a hobby project, we have lives".

Their communication with the open source community is abysmal. I've reported a serious issue that has been going for about 3 months (latest stable release and snapshot) to their mailing lists. After having the issue ignored for a month, I went to their forums and raised the same issue there, and well, you saw from my previous posts what I got from it, i.e. told to stop being a crying baby and make another jeethub account. My previous account, which I'd used solely to create issues, was shadowbanned out of nowhere and I can't reach human support without 2FA, which I am not doing.
Meanwhile, they have no issues to quickly merge AI slop PRs such as this one https://github.com/openwrt/openwrt/pull/25335 (even the PR's description is AI slop, peak clown world).

Yeah, I figured it was something like that. It's all just excuses. "This is a hobby project, we have lives" is the worst possible cop-out for something like this. Your self-proclaimed "hobby project" is used on internet-attached devices, faggots, you're on the hook for problems whether it's convenient or not. Step down if your lives can't accommodate the accountability requirements involved. It's all just excuses. Either do the work or fuck off, but they don't want to do either one. They'd rather have the ego boost from "running the project" rather than actually, y'know, "run" it.

They're cooked. The project needs to be forked by competent maintainers. They'll pitch a fit, call whoever does it mean names and stamp their feet and try to invoke whatever lügenpresse agents they can find to smear the fork, but it still needs doing anyway.

I refuse to voluntarily touch Wayland, full stop. Metux is also far preferable of an infrastructure project steward than Libreleah... but holy fucking shit: horseshoe theory is correct because the upper echelons of alternative infrastructure projects are almost always antisocial, paranoid schizophrenics or something.

It's inevitable. For a project to actually split off from the original version because of absurd politics or shitflinging, it's pretty much a requirement that someone gets angry/unhinged enough to actually fork the project. Most people just shrug and move on, find something else, or put up with the bullshit to get something fixed because they need it enough to tolerate the nonsense but not enough to say "fuck it, fuck these idiots, I'll do it myself." That's not a trivial burden, so only the most dedicated assholes ever do it.

If completely reasonable people could be suitably motivated to just politely spin off useful projects away from their obnoxious dictators-for-life, keep the politics out and just focus on the tech, we'd have good technology projects without all the retardation that's actively killing open-source development instead of competing with (and killing) corporate slop.

Libreleah
Ironically enough Francis is an OpenBSD guy meaning Xenocara/Xorg. Kinda ironic for someone who's friends with the safety tranny ogre from Alpine, Ariadne Connil.
I think I’ll wait to see how the Wayland compositor for Cinnamon turns out as if anyone will make a proper compositor without ideological compromises it’ll be the Mint team. But the Deb packaging for Xlibre has been flaky and I’m not going to bother with it anymore.
XFCE is probably gonna have an alright Wayland sesh. Not sure how churn-heavy Smithay is (r*st, I am vomit), but it can't be worse than wlroots.

I wish people told me about zram and zswap when I switched to Linux Mint. Apparently different distros go with either zram or zswap but Mint has them off by default. After researching them for way too long due to so much out of date info and people spreading misinfo, I went with zswap. I noticed way less 1% lows/stutters in more memory hungry games and applications. It's a pretty noticeable improvement and it also reduced SSD usage which is nice in the long term.

I decided to go with zswap, because: it has an adjusting size, it offloads cold swap to disk when needed, and it seems more stable from what I read. I tweaked my settings to be expansive with good compression to noticeably reduce disk swaps. Might play with the settings over time to adjust it to my needs.

Also I find it pretty funny how the Windows thread has pages upon pages of pure seethe about Linux users spearheaded by a certain slavic sperg, who STILL can't get over getting threadbanned forever ago. "Windows lives rent free in troonix users' heads!" then they proceed to seethe for pages upon pages writing rants and fanfictions about how their friend trooned out because he had to do sudo apt update or something.

I might just not be nerdy enough yet, but I don’t get the whole argument between x11 and Wayland, I’ve always used Wayland because it let me have different refresh rates between monitors.

Generally it seems to me that Wayland is the working modern solution with x11 (now depreciated) is an older legacy option.

Wayland being forced upon people despite not being a finished product is the issue. Also, the devs responsible for maintaining Xorg abandoned it on purpose to push Wayland.
