Last week, a 34-year-old man named Ken Bone was an audience participant in the Trump-Clinton debates. He instantly became an overnight sensation to to the internet at large due to his jovial appearance and warm personality, generating meme after meme[/url and having his twitter account go from several to tens of thousands of followers.

Sounds like a typical internet star. He gets notable for a week or two then he fades out and get a random remembrance on those year-end recaps. This is where things get interesting: He hosts an AMA on Reddit several days after gaining his newfound fame
. Unfortunately, he fails to realize that the internet is a cruel and unforgiving place and uses his general Reddit screenname to answer questions. Internet sleuths then comb over his history, and find some rather strange facts about him. He fapped to pics of Jennifer Lawrence during The Fappening, he committed insurance fraud, he likes fetishized porn, and called the Trayvon Martin shooting justified. This led to an internet shitstorm which has sought to completely destroy whatever reputation he had gained in the last week or so. Now, he lies disgraced like many internet denizens before him.

Personally, most of this shit is really, really minor. To hardened Kiwis, this isn't even lolcow material. On some things, like the Trayvon Martin shooting, he's correct. He's human, shockingly, so that means he must be destroyed. What say you? Shameful display by the internet or justified sleuthing?

Don't want to be found out? Don't stick your neck out.

Bone seems like a normal guy. Well, about as normal as anybody who's an undecided voter after the year we've had can possibly be (I mean c'mon, how much fucking time do you need to figure this out!?).

Hell, I've said more disgusting shit in person then Bone did on reddit. I'd argue most people have. I mean c'mon, what'd he say? He joked about looking at Jennifer Lawrence's butthole, made a bizarre comment on "human submarines" on a preggo fetish subreddit, and gave an almost comically even handed assessment of the Trayvon Martin shooting where he said George Zimmerman was a piece of shit but that the law considered him justified.

Straight up boring is what it all is. I require more panache in my internet weirdos before I care

To be fair, this election is like choosing between getting decaptitated via guillotine or slowly eaten to death by piranhas.

Just a cautionary tale as to why you shouldn't use a screenname traceable to your IRL identity if you're going to do weird shit on the Internet.

Eh, average dude gets thrust into spotlight. Spotlight uncovers the fact that average dudes have some grotty aspects.

TBH, I read the AMA and liked the way the guy carried himself. He didn't hide from his own internet footprint, which is far braver and more honest than most people would be.

Poor bastard. Yeah, he brought it on himself by not being more careful with his Internet footprint, but I still feel bad for what happened to him. He seems like a nice enough guy, dude doesn't deserve all this shit for having a weird kink and a kind of controversial opinion, especially when you consider just how much worse people on the Internet can be. (I.e. the cows here) My :feels: go out to you, Ken.

I don't even know why he got famous in the first place.
